IN-FORM Burley have a chance – perhaps the last – to ratchet up the tension at the top of Division One when they entertain Aire-Wharfe League front-runners Otley on Saturday.

Last weekend Otley polished off Bilton in 99 minutes and went on to crush Tong Park Esholt in the Waddilove Cup final with a record 376-3 total.

Otley currently lead Beckwithshaw by 13 points, with Burley a further 13 back with only six games to go, and are hot favourites to complete the double.

But if Burley could beat them they would still have a chance because all the top three have to play each other during the run-in and it is likely to be the result of those matches that decide where the silverware spends the winter.

After a shaky start to the season, losing three of the first four games – the third of which was by 66 runs at Otley – Burley have grown in confidence and are unbeaten since.

Jamie Pickering (99) and Ricky Halloran (6-51) swung the game Otley's way that day and they will undoubtedly be a threat again. But with Jason Wright, Ed Brown and Nick Brook firing on all cylinders, this should be a clash to savour.

While those two sides knock lumps out of each other, Beckwithshaw have a comfortable-looking match at Bilton and fourth-placed Horsforth can stay in touch against bottom club Kirkstall.

With four straight wins under their belt, Pool will travel confidently to Rawdon, against whom they registered their first victory of the season thanks to a five-wicket spell by Ollie Boggie.

Steeton desperately need maximum points against Ilkley if they are to have a chance of escaping the drop.

Promotion and relegation in Division Two is complicated by the defection next season of Knaresborough and Illingworth to different leagues.

It almost certainly means that Colton and Guiseley, the current top two, will go up – and Colton can increase that prospect when they meet nearest threat Adel.

Guiseley should also increase their prospects against a Calverley side who have gone off the boil in recent weeks.

Harden currently fill what is likely to be the only relegation spot but they have a great opportunity to improve their position against Illingworth, who are below them and have nothing to play for.

That would put pressure on Skipton, who have a 22-point advantage at the moment but face a difficult trip to Addingham.

Thackley eased their worries last week by beating Adel and need more of the same at Ben Rhydding.

Division Three is set for a thrilling sprint to the finish, with four clubs in the blocks for what are set to be three promotion places.

Leaders Leeds Modernians are hot favourites and are likely to make short work of Alwoodley, while second-placed Hall Park should not have too much trouble at Bardsey.

Tong Park, who are third, need to shake off the disappointment of league and cup defeats last weekend and be at the top of their game at New Rover, who only fell seven short of Modernians' 250-9 last week.

Green Lane, who are on an eight-match winning streak – including Esholt last week – are only three points back but they too face a stiff test at Menston.

Olicanian entertain Upper Wharfedale, who have won only once all season, while Bolton Villas' bowling strength is likely to be too much for Silsden.
