STUART McCall is not fazed by those who have questioned his appointment as City boss for a second time.

The legendary former player's first stint in charge came at a difficult time but the 52-year-old believes he is better for his spells at Motherwell, Rangers and the Scotland national side.

"Every club and every set of fans want someone different to manage them – some supporters will want you and some won't," said McCall.

"It's water off a duck's back to me now and it's about getting out on the park.

"Listen, I managed Rangers for three and a bit months and learnt so much. To go out in front of 50,000 fans and take the club into the play-off final was great.

"That experience, learning under Gordon (Strachan) with the international set-up, plus the success I had at Motherwell with the record points total and we improved season after season.

"It's not just about success, it's also about what you build. The players that we brought to the club helped to improve them and ensured they went on to bigger and better things.

"As a manager, you try and improve your players at the club and blend them in as a unit – learn, improve, succeed.

"If you don't learn from past experiences, then you're a very naive person in whatever walk of life you are in.

"I am a lot better equipped now and more streetwise than when I was previously here."

McCall will look to bolster his backroom team following the departure of several key members of staff.

Assistant boss Steve Parkin, goalkeeping coach Lee Butler, head of sports performance Nick Allamby and head scout Tim Breacker have joined Phil Parkinson at Bolton.

So far, McCall's only appointment has been Kenny Black, who he worked with at Motherwell and Rangers, as his right-hand man.

McCall said: "Kenny, my assistant, is a workaholic and football is in his blood. We've got a desire and determination to succeed."

The League One fixtures for next season are released today and City will take on St Johnstone in a pre-season friendly at McDiarmid Park on Tuesday, July 19 (7.15pm).

That friendly will make up part of a week-long stay in Scotland for McCall's squad during their schedule ahead of the 2016/2017 campaign.

The game is City's fourth confirmed pre-season fixture so far this summer, with the club having already announced matches against Burnley, Bradford Park Avenue and Carlisle United.
