HOLDERS Yorkshire opened their British Parks Senior County Championship campaign with a 22-9 win over Cheshire.

In the home match at Spen Victoria, Yorkshire carded nine winners, with Nicky Bastow (Eccleshill) 21-7, Mark Regan (Brighouse Sports) 21-9 and Richard Stockdale (Eccleshill) 21-9 ensuring an 11-3 victory.

The away match, at Navigation Hotel in Woodley, was a much closer affair with six winners each, but Yorkshire edged the aggregate by two chalks to win it 8-6.

Starring for the away team was debutant Robbie Ellis (Shipley Club) with a stunning 21-3 success.

Next up for Yorkshire is a match against Birkenhead on Sunday, June 19.

In the British Parks Veterans' County Championship, Yorkshire began with a 14-13 win over South Yorkshire.

At Rufford in the home match, Yorkshire carded seven winners, with Dave Norris (Guiseley) 21-10 the pick of them, as the hosts finished 9-3 up.

The away match at Meersbrook BC looked a banker for South Yorkshire but Yorkshire shared the winners, with Gordon Bradford (Clayton) 21-9 starring as his side left with five points to ensure a narrow overall victory.
