CHESTERFIELD will be glad to see the back of this season.

Last week’s 3-0 win over Bury guaranteed their place in League One again – but it has been a struggle.

After Dean Saunders’ ill-fated short spell in charge, the experienced hand of Danny Wilson has eventually guided them to safety. But having pipped City for a play-off spot a year ago, it has been some comedown.

Now having survived the drop, Keighley-born goalkeeper Tommy Lee is already looking to more positive things next season.

And he cites Leicester’s against-the-odds Premier League title triumph as the bench mark Chesterfield should follow.

Lee said: “If we need any inspiration as to how a team can change its fortunes then we have it in the brilliant Leicester City.

“They have proved that anything is possible with thoughtful recruitment, an unshakeable belief in the way they want to play, consistent team selection and a collective desire to fight for each other.”

Lee claimed the 100th clean sheet of his career in the victory over the Shakers. It was only Chesterfield’s seventh in the league this season.

The former Oakworth Junior added: “It’s been difficult. We have lost some great players, lost a manager and had a 12-game losing run during the middle of the season.

“So I think we have done okay to get to the points tally that we have. That is something we should be proud of.

“Starting at Bradford, we have an opportunity to finish the league on a high and lay down a marker for where we want to be competing next season – at the right end of the table.”

But Lee and on-loan striker Lee Novak are both rated 50/50 for tomorrow because of knocks. Neither have trained this week.

Chesterfield’s problems have been at the Proact Stadium – with only six wins on home turf.

They have fared much better on the road with nine victories, the same number as the Bantams, including wins at Walsall, Millwall, Barnsley and Gillingham.

Gary Liddle admitted: “We’ve got an away record that probably matches any team at the top of the division. But our home form tells its own story."
