YORKSHIRE have allowed fast bowler Josh Shaw to join Gloucestershire on a season-long loan.

The county believe that it is best for the 20-year-old to develop his game by playing more first-team cricket, which they cannot currently guarantee at Headingley.

Shaw, a former England-under 19 international, has played only two Twenty20 matches for the White Rose side – both last July.

He links up with his former Yorkshire second-team coach Richard Dawson, now in charge of Gloucestershire's first-team, immediately.

"This is a great opportunity for me to continue my development as a professional cricketer," said Wakefield-born Shaw, whose father Chris made over 100 appearances for Yorkshire in first-class and one-day cricket during the 1980s.

"At this time, it is very difficult to break into the Yorkshire first team with the quality of seamers currently in the side.

"To play senior cricket will broaden my experience and make me a better a player.

"I'm looking forward to, once again, working with Richard Dawson, who coached me at Yorkshire a couple of years ago."

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: "Josh deserves to develop his game further, and to have the potential of playing most of the new season with Gloucestershire at senior level is ideal in his current development.

"He needs to be playing against quality opposition across all three formats.

"Gloucestershire are a progressive club, and Richard Dawson is turning them into a strong unit.

"They showed their prowess last season by winning the Royal London One-Day Cup final.

"It can only be a good thing that Josh will be playing his cricket at this level."

Shaw has taken 91 wickets from 64 appearances in all cricket for Yorkshire Seconds since debuting for them as a 16-year-old in 2012.
