BRADFORD & Bingley have been thwarted in their attempt to play West Park Leeds on Tuesday night.

The Yorkshire Division One leaders were due to have played the basement club at Cougar Park on Saturday, but that match was ruled out due to a frozen pitch.

However, the Bees were prepared to give up home advantage and play West Park Leeds on their artificial pitch at Bramhope in a bid to get some game-time before they meet third-placed Bridlington away on Saturday.

Bradford & Bingley's rugby secretary Nick Patterson explained: "It is now five weeks since we had a game and we need a run-out before we face Bridlington next weekend but West Park Leeds didn't want to play us in midweek.

"Maybe they were short of players so the match has been re-arranged for Saturday, March 26."

The Bees were also keen to play at Cougar Park on Saturday, and Patterson said: "The players were already changed and we wanted to play.

"It was harder at the Lawkholme Lane end of the ground, and we have played in grounds that are as hard in April, but the referee deemed it unfit for play."

Bradford Salem travelled to Halifax to face Old Crossleyans, with the match being called off after Howard Cooper, director of rugby at Crocs, and Salem's first-team manager Neil Klenk walked the pitch.

Otley travelled further – to Sedgley Park in Manchester for their National League Two North match.

Visiting secretary Marc Lawrence said: "There were areas that were playable and others that were icy. It has been re-arranged for Saturday, March 12."

Old Grovians' bid to get their game against Old Rishworthians on was also foiled.

With their own pitch at Elm Tree Farm still out of action due to contamination, Grovians arranged to use Baildon's ground at Jenny Lane but that was unplayable due to frost.

Cleckheaton's home match against Lymm in National League Three North was another to be called off.

Neil Gillan, rugby chairman for Cleckheaton, said: "It was minus five overnight and parts of the ground were like blocks of ice.

"Lymm are now three games behind but we are only one."

The game is likely to be re-arranged for Saturday, March 12.
