WEST Bowling thrashed Leeds rivals Queens 58-0 in the big Pennine League Premier Division game of the day.

Having travelled the short distance to their Burley-based opponents, Bowling wasted no time in getting down to business.

The visitors were 10-0 up in as many minutes thanks to tries from Richard Lumb and Jack Milburn, plus a successful conversion by Liam Coe. Queens then put up a real fight and for half an hour, the contest was in the balance.

However, with half-time approaching, Bowling's superior fitness began to tell and three quickfire tries broke Queens' hearts as Robert Young, Max Trueman and Ben Heald all touched down.

Coe was also on target with two of the three goal attempts to give Bowling a commanding 26-0 lead at the break.

Normal service was also resumed in the second half when Nigel Halmshaw had son Danny to thank as he put his dad through a big hole to leave the Queens defence trailing in his wake.

Bowling, sensing that Queens were well and truly on the ropes, duly finished them off. Heald completed a fine hat-trick, while Trueman and Milburn doubled their tally.

Joe Smedley then rounded off the Bowling scoring to complete a resounding victory that allowed them to retain second place and keep leaders Doncaster Toll Bar in their sights.

In Division One, hosts Hunslet Club Parkside and Victoria Rangers were applauded off the pitch after a fair but bruising encounter, which Parkside won 24-10.

Defences were on top for the opening 20 minutes before a slip in the mud let in Hunslet for a try that was goaled.

Vics levelled just before half-time with a short-side set play, Carl McGuigan scoring a try which Hayden Sugden improved.

Another six-point play from Hunslet was replied to with a Cameron Foster try and this preceded a period of Vics pressure, where they were twice held up over the line.

However, Parkside bagged a breakaway try, which was improved, and they added another six-point play after Aiden Scully's short kick-off went out on the full.

Elsewhere, A Jordan Payton hat-trick was not enough to stop Wyke A going down 28-24 to an experienced Illingworth A outfit in Division Four West.

In a tough encounter played in horrendous conditions, Payton showed some real class to post his treble in the first 25 minutes.

Sean Kelly and Andy Naylor also put in a real shift in the forwards, while elusive full back Brett Gray helped himself to a cracking try following some great hands.

Despite dominating at times, however, Wyke were unable to make it count as Illingworth eventually secured the win.
