Yorkshire Shield: Scarborough 8 Bradford & Bingley 22

BRADFORD & Bingley not only reached the quarter-finals but also ended Scarborough's unbeaten home record for the season.

The seasiders haven't lost at home since Old Brodleians defeated them 20-8 in March - a run of eight matches which includes a 31-31 draw with Brods this season.

Yorkshire Division One leaders the Bees were without prop Roger Raper and lock Richard Hughes, so started with Michael Crotch in the front row, Tom Booth switching to the second row and Nick Gore continuing at full back.

Horizontal rain and a gale-force wind meant it was no day to be a back seeing little of the ball, however, and, while fly half Gerhard Nortier landed a penalty into the elements to give the visitors the lead in the seventh minute, they lost Lachlan Moore two minutes later after the centre was sin-binned for disagreeing with a referee's decision.

The Bees lost prop Ryan Wederall to a quad muscle injury in the 17th minute, making him a doubt for the home league match against North Ribblesdale on Saturday, and an uneventful first half ended with the score at 3-3 after Scarboorugh also landed a penalty.

Ben Greaves replaced a chilly Gore at half-time, and they also lost Wederall's replacement Eddie Peglau injured seven minutes into the second half, back-rower Greg Whately coming back on to replace him having given Chris Fisher a run before half-time.

Fisher got Bradford & Bingley's first try after 50 minutes, after the visitors had gone through several phases, Nortier converting for 10-3, and centre Moore cut a nice line through the middle 12 minutes later.

Luke Peacock was then given a run-out in place of Fisher, and Crotch made it three tries in as many matches with seven minutes remaining, Nortier's conversion making it 22-3.

Scarborough scored a late consolation try as the Bees booked a last-eight tie at Malton & Norton on Saturday, February 6.

Moore was named man of the match but was pushed hard by No 8 Tom Cummins, the improving Crotch and the versatile Booth.
