THE 2016 Aire-Wharfe League season will start on Saturday, April 16 and finish on Saturday, September 10.

However, what impact the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race will have on proceedings remains to be seen.

League secretary Dave Alred told their council meeting at Otley Rugby Club: "It will be held from April 29 to May 1 but what routes will be on what days has yet to be revealed.

"We could rearrange league matches to the Bank Holiday Monday (May 30) or to the end of the season but it is ridiculous that we don't know what area the race is coming to on what date.

"What happens if you have booked a wedding in Otley for the same time?

"I have just sent a snotty e-mail to Gary Verity (Welcome to Yorkshire's chief executive) complaining about the lack of imformation."

Meanwhile, no-one has yet stepped forward to replace Paul Giles as league treasurer.

The league's management committee have proposed, and Otley have seconded, the idea of making third-team start times more flexible on Sundays.

Alred said: "If we can start earlier than 2.30pm, if for example there is no junior match beforehand, then we should do with the agreement of both clubs and the umpires."

Meanwhile, the league also want students to be dual-registered so they can play at a club near their educational establishment during term-time but play for a club near their family home during the holidays.

However, clubs raised the potential problem of a student, rather than playing in a block of matches for one or the other club, choosing which team to play for depending on which of the two clubs were doing better at the time.

Both these proposals will be voted upon at the league's annual meeting, also at Otley Rugby Club, on Tuesday, November 24.
