CITY have been warned to be on Mark Yeates alert at Oldham on Saturday.

The winger went down in Valley Parade folklore with the fourth goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup shock of shocks in January.

But he will be out to derail City's improving run when they face his present club at Boundary Park.

Yeates has joined Oldham on a short-term deal and made his first appearance off the bench in their draw at Bury last weekend.

Gary Liddle is delighted to see his former team-mate back in action after the shoulder injury that blighted his final month with the Bantams.

But he knows that they will have to watch him carefully in shooting range.

Liddle said: "Yeatesy always scores good goals – mainly free-kicks or curlers from outside the box. Obviously there was also that one coming off the bench in the Chelsea game that clinched it.

"But one game that sticks in my mind with Yeatesy was at Preston last season. We'd just conceded and he went up the other end and curled one in the bottom corner.

"That's what he's capable of. But he's played in the Championship with Watford and been at some other good clubs, so we know he is a threat."

Yeates, 30, played 81 times in two seasons at City, 40 of those as a substitute, before he was released in May.

He still lives locally and did some rehabilitation work at Apperley Bridge during the summer after an operation to sort out his dislocated shoulder.

There were rumours of interest from the Indian Premier League before Oldham became his 11th different club.

Liddle said: "It will be nice to see Yeatesy again. I rang him after the news came out that he'd signed and he was thrilled.

"I know he's been a little bit disappointed that he didn't have anything lined up before that. There was talk of him going abroad but he just wanted somewhere.

"Now that his shoulder is fine again, he's trained at a few places. He was at Rochdale for a bit and now he's with Oldham and I'm just happy he has got sorted.

"I know it's a short-term deal until Christmas time but it gets him back out there on the pitch. Yeatesy loves football and he's a real danger when he's at it.

"If he can get a run of games together and keep his fitness up, then Oldham will have a good player on their hands. I just hope he has a quiet one against us."
