JAY Pitts has warned the Bulls they must cut out the errors as they gear up for “seven Grand Finals” which will determine their fate.

The back-rower believes last weekend’s defeat at Halifax summed up their season and accepts a vast improvement is now required.

Jimmy Lowes’ side open their Super 8s campaign with a home match against Sheffield Eagles this Sunday before a trip to Wakefield six days later.

The opening two fixtures has encouraged hopes of picking up maximum points ahead of successive home games against Salford and Widnes.

But Pitts, one of the Bulls’ most consistent performers this season, knows his team must show far greater care in possession after numerous mistakes at The Shay.

The back-rower said: “We dropped too much ball against Halifax and it has been a bit of a story of our season.

“We go into games with the right intentions but we just kill ourselves by dropping too many balls and you can’t do it.

“The conditions were the same for Halifax and they didn’t make half as many errors as us.

“Every week now in the Super 8s is like a Grand Final and we can’t be making these same mistakes.

“We want to be in Super League and everyone thinks we should be, and rightly so because we’re a massive club.

“But it’s about performing on the day and it all starts in the week at training.

“We shot ourselves in the foot last week and we’ve got a lot of stuff to work on, but it’s a new competition now.”

Pitts remains optimistic about the Bulls’ promotion prospects following the recent acquisition of Omari Caro, James Clare, Matty Ryan and Dane Nielsen.

“With the squad we had, we felt really confident we could do it anyway but the recent signings have only made us stronger,” added Pitts.

“It gives us a lot more competition for places and that can only be good for us.

“Everything that has gone on previously has to go out of the window because we have to really kick on now.

“Stepping it up in training is a massive part of it because everyone wants to play in these Super 8s.

“That’s what pre-season and all these tough regular season games have been for – to try and get back into Super League. It’s game on now.”
