Jason Taylor, Joanna Bullock, Matthew Chambers and Arianna Zenti proved the dominant performers at the Under-13 and Under-15 West Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics Trials at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre.

Bingley Grammar School pupil Matthew won five events at under-13 boys' level, breaking two records, while Parkside's Arianna won three events, breaking one record, in the under-13 girls.

Other hat-trick heroes were Jason Taylor, from Hipperholme and Lightcliffe, in the under-15 boys, and Bullock, from The Girls' Grammar School, Bradford, in the under-15 girls.

The Odsal venue was preferred because of its facilities, and more than 140 boys and girls were competing for the right to represent their county in the Yorkshire Regional finals in Halifax on Sunday, February 11.

Five records fell in track events, Arianna setting a best in the four-lap race, as well as winning the standing long jump and standing triple jump.

Spenborough's Sarah Roberts set a record in the six-lap race in the same age group.

Matthew Chambers dominated the under-13 boys' events, breaking a record in the two-lap race and sharing a record with Sushank Bastola (Crossley Heath School) in the one-lap race.

The standing long jump, standing triple jump and vertical jump also fell to the Bingley Grammar School ace, while Samuel Kerfoot-Roberts (Crossley Heath School) broke the record in the four-lap race.

Joanna Bullock's hat-trick came in the four-lap race, the standing long jump and the shot, while Jason Taylor's treble was similar, coming in the two-lap race, the standing triple jump and the shot.

However, the under-15 boys were the only disappointment on the day, with only nine entering and eight competing when seven top performers are needed for each team.
