Cleckheaton Rugby Union Club's second team, the Kestrels, who play in the Yorkshire Premiership, have been boosated by a sponsorship deal with local firm Goliath Footwear Ltd.

The company, who started making boots in 1880 at Brunswick Mills in Heckmondwike, at one time manufactured lightweight football boots for Sir Stanley Matthews, among others, and ghave now moved on to safety footwear, such as boost for firefighters and the police.

The deal will see Goliath's name emblazoned on the fromt of the Kestrels' shirts, and Goliath's marketing manager Abby Steele said: "We are delighted to support our local team and see them do well. We hope with a name like Goliath on their chests they can take on any opposition with little fear! They are a great group of lads and we wish them well for the season ahead."

Cleckheaton RUFC chairman Neil Gillan said: "Getting the support of local businesses is so important for the team and the community. The team will be proud to wear Goliath shirts for the season ahead."
