BRADFORD boss John Deacey has been pleased with the attitude of his squad over what has been a very testing fortnight.

Avenue were riding high after a very bright start to the season but were then left stunned by a bad injury to Martin Drury and their decent start began to unravel as they suffered three defeats on the trot.

Deacey said: “Heads have certainly not dropped. The players have been fantastic in training and their attitude on match days has been very positive.

“There has been the odd game where we haven’t been at our best but you expect that over a season. I thought we were very good at Fylde but we got beaten, only 2-1 but we lost.

“But Fylde are a very, very good side. They have given a lot of top clubs a lot of problems and they will continue to do so. This division is ultra competitive this season and the results, of every club – not just us – show that.”

The treble of losses saw Avenue tumble down the table but Deacey is not concerned about their position at this early stage.

“Nobody has pulled away at the top and nobody has lost too much ground to make up so there’s no panic. We have changed the system and I’ve been encouraged by the way the players have accepted that and their effort and endeavour.”

More news on Drury is expected soon as the medics treating him were waiting for swelling to go down before doing more scans on his ankle.
