Nicola Adams guaranteed a Commonwealth Games medal to add to her collection after easing into the boxing semi-finals in Glasgow.

A unanimous verdict over Erandi de Silva of Sri Lanka did not tell the whole story as Olympic champion Adams dominated the contest.

The former Bradford College student now faces Mandy Bujold in the semi-finals after the Canadian outpointed Kristy Harris of Australia.

Adams said: "I am really pleased with the performance. Everything went to plan. If you stick to the tactics and listen to the coaches, you will always do well.

"She was a really game fighter, I have got to give her credit. She never gave up and kept coming forward.

"Everybody is a challenge for me at this weight. Everybody wants to be the new Nicola Adams – everybody wants to beat me and take the number one spot.

"But I have got to stick to cutting my grass and not worry about how green everybody else's is."

Meanwhile, Pudsey gymnast Nile Wilson – fresh from winning a team gold medal – added a bronze as England colleague Max Whitlock won the individual all-around competition.

Wilson, who had been competing in the junior ranks as recently as May, admitted: "It was a surprise.

"I didn't come here expecting to win an all-around medal and the team gold (on Tuesday) was unbelievable.

"I just focused on my job, trying to hit my routines, and it came off. I'm really, happy to win a bronze medal. It's unbelieveable."
