FORMER Bradford Esprit diver Sam Thornton has collected the British Gas GBR Diving Team’s second medal of the 2014 European Junior Championships.

He took a one-metre springboard bronze on the second day at Bergamo in Italy.

Competing in Group A, Thornton – who completed a clean sweep of the titles at the Elite Junior Championships earlier this season – maintained his concentration to qualify first from a 26-diver preliminary in the morning.

The City of Leeds competitor then held on to a medal-winning position in the final, scoring 504.80 points to finish behind Germany's Timo Barthel (516.50) and Poland's Kacper Lesiak (506.00).
