Jorden Deacey quits Bradford Park Avenue to join Telford
6:11am Thursday 3rd July 2014 in Sport
THE news that Bradford Park Avenue fans did not want but expected was delivered yesterday when it was confirmed that midfielder Jordan Deacey had left the club.
The 20-year-old has moved up a division by signing for Conference Premier newcomers AFC Telford United. Avenue boss John Deacey, Jordan's father, had recently stated that there were four offers on the table.
Jordan had been linked with Scunthorpe United and Hartlepool but was also coveted by some of the clubs in the highest tier of non-League soccer.
He duly decided that, with his current interests outside the game, he wanted the freedom and flexibility of a move to the Conference Premier.
Telford were divisional rivals of Avenue last season but gained promotion by winning the Conference North title. They will hope to build on the momentum as they rejoin the country's fifth division.
Deacey senior has moved to fill the gap and strengthened his midfield in general with two top signings as Avenue look to mount a serious promotion challenge themselves this coming season.
Former Bantams player Scott Kerr brings vast experience while, at the other end of the scale, 21-year-old Nathan Turner was snapped up following his release from Leeds United.
Avenue play their opening friendly next Wednesday and have just announced prices for the visit of Doncaster Rovers. It will be pay at the turnstiles with adults costing £10, concessions (over 60 and students) £5 and armed forces and under-16s free.
