Missing Millers ‘no bad thing’ for Bradford City

Phil Parkinson believes the promotion of Rotherham is no bad thing as City look to replicate their Yorkshire rivals next term.

Controversial Millers boss Steve Evans has become a hate figure for City supporters following his spell at Crawley before moving to Rotherham in 2012.

The rivalry between Evans and the Bantams continued when he guided United to automatic promotion from League Two 12 months ago, before steering the club into the Championship via a dramatic penalty shoot-out play-off final win over Leyton Orient.

Rotherham, backed by the wealth of ambitious chairman Tony Stewart, have spent big in their pursuit of success.

City boss Parkinson said: “Rotherham have now gone up, which has taken a derby out of the equation for next season.

“As much as they are our rivals, with the budget and the money they have, you always know they will be a threat because they have a bigger spending power that most other teams in the division.

“Therefore it’s no bad thing that they have been promoted.”

But the Bantams can look forward to plenty of derby fixtures next season following the relegation of Barnsley and Doncaster from the Championship.

Fleetwood, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe and Rochdale all move up from League Two and Parkinson said: “There should be some big away followings at Valley Parade and obviously our supporters will travel in numbers as well.”

Parkinson watched the play-off finals over the Bank Holiday weekend and admits it evoked memories of City’s demolition of Northampton last May.

He said: “I enjoyed watching the games and it was nice to remember it was us only 12 months ago.”

Not a chance chairman set to throw a load more money at it to add to the 30million already. Fat lad could hardly fail with that backing. I liked his "run" down the touchline on Sunday..he almost lost his strides

I hope "Shoatsy " is right. I would delight in City going up next Season; As 'Rov'Ram ' come down.

To achieve this --and Julian Rhodes requirement for more attacking players. Will require more than the Half Million Player Budget!!. Compare that with the Budget -Evans has !!.

Are you actually a City fan!? As if you were you would know that the Chairmen don't have that type of money to spend. The Rhodes family spent £20+million just keeping the club afloat. You would also know that Lawn has a personal wealth of around £10-£15 million.

Tony Stewart is worth 100's of millions hence why he is able to fund Rotherham the way he can!!

We have to cut our cloth accordingly. This is mainly due to the chairmen knowing that most Bradford fans are tight and will not be willing to pay more than £200 a season ticket. If they were confident that they would get 12,000+ buying a ticket at £300+ then we may be able to compete more.

Also our budget is not half a million, it is half a million down on last seasons.

You sir are a fool!!!

If you are a true supporter, which I doubt that you are, you should remember that trying to buy instant success almost killed our club twice, in the past. The Chairmen have kept this club afloat and made it debt free, so that the club will hopefully still be around for the fans today and the fans of the future, for many ears to come. You should be thanking them for that. The club has to live within its means, and that also means that the Chairmen cannot spend more money than they have got, otherwise they put the club at risk again. If you think that they are tight, why don't you put your hand in your pocket and donate your wages to the club.....Can't afford it? Thought not. Now you know how the Chairmen feel, because they do put as much money as they possibly can into the club, and then people like you come along to criticise their efforts.

Have you heard of Standard Attainment Tests (SATS)? If it is not too late, I would suggest you hire a private tutor for the ten year old.

In addition to the clarification of the budget being £500k down on last seasons, let us not forget that the budget also represents a £500k OVER SPEND. That to me is a clear indication the chairmen, and the board in general, are backing this club to the hilt. I'm also extremely proud (and reassured) by the fact the club is one of only 19 of the 92 professional clubs who posted a profit last season. That's 4 out of the last 5 years that our club has posted a profit. Mr Rhodes, Mr Lawn, Mr Baldwin et al, thank you so much.

With regards to Rotherham; congratulations to them. No matter what we think of Mr Evans, their promotion was well deserved. I for one quite like Rotherham as a club and have no issue with their fans - so for them, I'm pleased. The positive for us; we don't have to worry about the circus that accompanies Mr Evans and his visits to Valley Parade. Let the Championship managers worry about him and his antics now, let us concentrate on next season and taking Bradford City another step in the right direction.

The problem here is the lack of subject in hand. That is what provokes the need for alternatives e.g. personal insults.

It is a poor excuse, but the closed season can turn most chilled punter into a monster.

Have you heard of Standard Attainment Tests (SATS)? If it is not too late, I would suggest you hire a private tutor for the ten year old. With all respect, there is only so much wisdom a man can impart. After all, you are not on the dole and so my suggestion might be affordable?
There is no need to insult BCFC he is only voicing his opinion which is his right to do so as he says he is a season ticket holder along with his children and in his way he is helping to support City. We can comment on what he says without calling him names or have some of you reached the bottom of the barrel Please try to act like gentlemen or is that to hard to do
The original post got the reaction it deserved ..the idea that all views however ill informed have an equivalence is in itself rather stupid!
Lonnie (who previously wrote on here) was magnanimous in terms of the rights of others to express opinions and in ways they saw fit.

There has to be a certain 'equivalance' so that others cannot run the rule as to what is considered appropriate or valid. There has to be equality at the point of contact.

However, when something is posted in the public domain, that is the point of redress.

Unfortunately, some seem to post as they please and cry-wolf when they are taken to task.

The OP had reached an unacceptable point for a number of people on here.

I accept, it does not excuse some of the remarks aimed back at him.

However, perhaps he will learn something and not be so quick to make such scurillous remarks (in my opinion) again?

Worse still, it creates a negative atmosphere that play right into their hands.

Yes, exactly.......the best way to get one over on Evans is to beat his team, basically lighting the blue touch paper and withdrawing with three points. It's not rocket science.

What is the rotherham budget, compared to City's, I've heard it mentioned a number of times. but no one seems to know. Is it double, the same, or even less?
