Bradford Park Avenue have been quick out of the blocks by confirming their first pre-season friendly.

Nigel Clough’s FA Cup semi-finalists Sheffield United will be visiting Horsfall Stadium on Saturday, July 24.

It will be the Blades' second visit to Avenue’s home as Neil Warnock brought his squad when the South Yorkshire outfit were in the Premier League.

Clough will also know his way to Horsfall after being Burton Town’s boss when the Brewers – who Warnock has also managed – were UniBond Premier Division rivals of Avenue.

That was 13 years ago, when Clough led the club to the 2001 title. It proved to be the springboard for Burton as they rocketed through the Conference League and into the Football League.

It also began the rise of former Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and England midfielder Clough as a manager and he has certainly increased his stock by leading Sheffield United to Wembley and also recently setting a record of ten straight victories for the club.

Avenue have another visit from a big name looming as tickets are currently on sale for an evening with Steve Kindon.

The former Wolves, Burnley and Huddesfield Town player will be giving a talk at the clubhouse at Horsfall next Friday.

Avenue press officer Lewis Sale said: “Steve has a very good reputation as an after-dinner speaker and we’re looking forward to his visit. The doors are open at 7pm for an 8pm start and the £15 ticket price includes a hot supper.”

Tickets are available through Dave Stordy at the club shop or by phone on 01274-512989.
