Bower on ‘massive’ game for Guiseley
Guiseley will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Conference North to seven games when they host Stalybridge Celtic tonight.
Lions boss Mark Bower knows his side need a win against the struggling Celts if they are to maintain their hopes of reaching the play-offs.
They have won four and drawn two of their last six league fixtures and would break the 50-point barrier with as much as a draw but a home victory could take them within five points of the play-offs.
Bower will be making certain that his players take nothing for granted though as relegation-threatened Stalybridge will be dangerous opponents.
The Celts may by just two points above the trapdoor, and seven points adrift of Worcester City – the club immediately above them – but they will be spurred on by their 3-1 win over Vauxhall Motors at the weekend.
Bower said: “We won’t be taking them lightly because it is a massive, massive game for us after Saturday (3-3 draw at Stockport County). Good teams bounce back so it’s all about how we play tonight now.
“We have set ourselves a pretty tall target to get to as we try to push up the league and we are close to it but there is more work to be done.”
Elsewhere tonight, there is a big derby in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League when Thackley, who have dropped off the pace in recent weeks, host Brighouse Town, who still have title ambitions.
