Bradford Bulls snap up Greg Burke from Wigan Warriors

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Greg Burke could make his Bulls debut at Hull FC on Friday Greg Burke could make his Bulls debut at Hull FC on Friday

Wigan Warriors forward Greg Burke has become the latest addition to the Bulls’ squad after arriving on a one-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old, who can operate in the front and back row, made 17 appearances for his hometown club last term.

Francis Cummins could hand a debut to Burke and fellow new recruit Liam Sutcliffe when the Bulls travel to Hull FC on Friday.

Head coach Cummins said: “Greg is a player I’ve known for a long time and he’s an impressive young forward. He is someone I have looked to bring here in the past on loan and I am very excited about what he might produce over the next few weeks or so.

“We believe he will prove a real handful for the opposition and he certainly adds a huge amount to our pack.

“I would like to thank Wigan Warriors and Shaun Wane for allowing him to come to us for a period. We hope to see him further improve with us.”

Burke came off the bench for Wigan in Sunday’s home win over Wakefield. Warriors coach Shaun Wane said: “This is a good opportunity for Greg to gain some regular football at the highest level.

“He will come back to us in a month’s time with some Super League game-time under his belt.

“Greg is a valuable member of our playing squad but at the moment I can’t promise him a regular place in the side.

“But I think that both him and the ulls will benefit from this agreement.”

Burke has started training with the Bulls ahead of Friday’s trip to the KC Stadium, where victory would see them wipe out their six-point penalty after just four rounds.

Another shrewd signing by FC, It seems other superleague clubs realise just how much they would miss the Bulls contribution, and the respect they have for our Coach. COYB !!!!

Lets not forget that the RFL have to agree these loans and have done so to a Club that is in special measures.

So how does that hold up against the RFL hate us and are the only ones to blame crowd?

Big well done Franny on this we are looking like a good side on paper now. The benefit of these loan signings is they all have a point to prove to their own clubs. Lets hope we can get Ben Evens back in April again for a loan spell, see Wakey are trying to tap Leeds up for Jones-Bishop its becoming the best season for years is this. A win at Hull will really set us up zero points after 4 rounds will be a real coup for us.

Again massive respect to Franny & our playing staff & players never say die attitude instead of giving in & lying on the bed !

Who said he has ever watched a match! Rumours probably spread by himself. Just mark him as a thumbs down and don't waste your time on him!

Another great addition to the squad. But just a thought, and not wishing to cast negativity on these loan deals but I just hope it doesn't unsettle the core squad...

If Burke and Sutcliffe walk into the team on Friday night it is a bit of a kick in the teeth for the likes of Danny Addy who provided great cover for Gaskell against Wakey, and which ever forward misses out (maybe Olbison?) Remember these players are only here temporarily and therefore when they leave we end up with the "old" team again...

Just a thought but all in all great business.

Good point odsaloptimist. I would hope all of the players will realise that these players are here to help them out of a hole we are in and they are no threat as they will go home when the time is right. I would like to see us out of special measures and keep them for the season.
Franny is doing a good job - remember that he is young and it is his first job!
The other clubs (most - not all) do appear to be trying to help us out so thank you to them as they must want the Bulls to survive.

One or two on here pretend to go to matches don't you TVOR, ain't that right Spanglish.
I must say I'm pleased with the help from one or two clubs, obviously they still see value in having a Bulls side in super league.
And if and when FC gets through this he'll deserve a medal.
At least it's keeping the Bull haters happy.

fully agree Danny Addy has stepped up and should retain his position. Unless we can secure these or other players of the same standard we will be hit hard when the loan is over.

fair play to the Bulldogs for their gesture, lets hope we are soon in a position to return the favour to their fans.
