Bradford Bulls 18 Castleford Tigers 36

Justin Carney, Luke Dorn and Grant Millington scored in the final quarter to give Castleford victory as the Bulls were beaten in their Super League opener today.

Imposing Aussie winger Carney caught a high kick from Liam Finn to edge Daryl Powell’s men in front when the scores were tied at 18-18.

Dorn then collected an inside pass from Marc Sneyd to add a fifth Tigers try with five minutes remaining before Millington claimed a sixth late on.

Francis Cummins’ men were on the front foot for much of the first half and Danny Addy’s close-range try put them ahead in the fourth minute.

Castleford replied through Weller Hauraki to make it 6-6 at half-time before Jamie Foster and Adrian Purtell scored either side of a try from Kirk Dixon.

That made it 18-12 to Bradford but Daryl Clark scored to level the match at 18-18 before Carney and then Dorn struck to seal it for Castleford.

The Bulls’ spirit was never in doubt in their first outing since the departure of Garreth Carvell and Jarrod Sammut but they ran out of steam in the final quarter and were punished accordingly.

Nevertheless, new recruit Lee Gaskell showed some promising touches alongside Luke Gale at half-back during the first half before Castleford gradually took control.

Well I aren't going to start the doom and gloomers off but it's going to have to be bring a decent player in before it's too late
Who the bloody hell is the fitness coach??
Not having people blaming the ref you play to the whistle simple as
Not one of those players is good enough to be a game changer
We didn't break there line once
Good defensive effort from powells men
Was listening to Richard lamb in we need to get him in ASAP
Nice to here somebody who sounds like he knows how to run a business
Would love to see a Luke Walsh or a Danny Brough player
That's all we are lacking luke gale may as well have gone to hull
Not sure about Gaskell yet either looks ordinary
Wakey will win on Thursday sounded like they put more effort in than we did today

Great to see Castleford bring a decent following for once.

I don't think many of us went into this game with much expectation but I didn't expect we'd run out of steam with a quarter of the game left.

Two questions. How long have we been back training and how come our fitness levels are so poor? If we can't compete physically for the full 80 minutes, we'll struggle to win a game. Franny and Co need to get some fitness work in ...FAST!

Now Sammut's gone, who's left to create anything?

On the pitch, and off it, there continue to be more questions than answers.

The worrying thing is Sammut wasn't going to be playing today anyway. FC confirmed partnership in the halves was Gale and Gaskell even if Sammut hadn't have left. Have to agree with Pablo, who is creating anything. Gale is no where near as good as he is made out to be. Gets 2 improved contracts in the last 2 seasons and Sammut been told he needs to earn it. Must have missed Gale earning his 2 contracts.

I honestly thought Hicks had an appalling game today. Cas scored three tries from his incorrect decisions and the one we scored in which he brought back for a knock on was totally the wrong decision as we didn't even touch the ball and then it bounced into Kears hands and then to have the try cancelled by this buffoon was a joke.

I thought he had a bad game too but Cas scored 3 times from us coughing up the ball on 1st tackle on our 10/20 metre line-can't blame the referee for that. Take those 3 tries out and it would have been a fair result. I thought Gaskell had a good game-man of match for me

Absolutely! there are two things in Superleague,or in any format of rugby league. 1 Respect possession. 2 Complete your sets! It's not rocket science,You have to make things as difficult as you can.for the opposition.

Nothing on the coughing the ball up way to often, nothing on the referee, nothing on being dead on out feet after 60min in the first game of the season?

Gale and Gaskell looked good together and was actually one of the main positives to come out of today, we need to be more worried about our defence and lack of fitness. On initial impact in the tackle they were gaining a good 5 metres every time, we looked very soft.

Genuinely didn't miss Sammut either.
