Danny Bridge comes on board at Bradford Bulls to offset Garreth Carvell departure

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Danny Bridge in action for Ireland Danny Bridge in action for Ireland

Danny Bridge today joined the Bulls on a one-month loan deal as Hull FC named Garreth Carvell in their 19-man squad to face Catalan on Friday.

Warrington forward Bridge is the younger brother of former Bradford centre Chris Bridge and can play in the back and front row.

Bridge will spend the next month on loan at the Provident Stadium and increases numbers in Francis Cummins’ squad after Carvell’s departure.

Cummins said: "I coached Danny and Adam O'Brien when he was with England Under-16s.

"He's big and strong and he's got some skill about him. He can put some big hits in."

Cummins is keen to add at least one prop to his squad after Carvell returned to Hull.

"He's made his decision," Cummins said of Carvell's departure.

"It's disappointing but, if a player doesn't want to be here, you have to move on.

"We've brought Danny Bridge in and that will probably be it for this week but we are looking at other options as we speak.

"We need another middle (forward) or two. We knew we had to any way when we had Gaz. We need to bolster the squad in that area."

Hull today confirmed the signing of Carvell on a one-year contract with the option of a second year.

They said in a statement on their official club website: "Hull FC have confirmed that former Black and Whites prop Garreth Carvell has returned to the club and has been named in Lee Radford’s 19-man squad to face Catalan Dragons on Friday.

"The experienced forward made 164 appearances for the Airlie Birds between 2001 and 2008 and featured in two Challenge Cup finals and one Grand Final as well as earning selection for Great Britain.

"He returns to East Yorkshire on an initial one-year contract with an option for a further 12 months, and could make his second Hull debut against the Dragons at the KC Stadium on Friday evening."

Glad that's the end of that. Hope the younger Bridge, has a better attitude than his brother, who tended to be a bit on the dirty side. But if DB, plays like his brother, but without the dirty side, could prove a good deal.

Lytham, Mark Mexico, was mooted to have signed for Bulls, but hasn't got his visa yet. As to compo, only if proved he was tapped up, prior to admin. But the fact that he's gone, releases monies to be able to sign maybe two on loan, eg Ben Evans, Saltonstall, or any others.

Northern Pig, re cloak and dagger, you've been kept up to date, on all things Carvell. If there are any monies due then no doubt we will be told. That is if we are privy to the amount paid. Undisclosed, is the word usually used, in these cases. They don't have to tell us, if they don't want.

gordon ramsay says...

there is no compensation

he is off the wage bill, that is our financial gain

in addition i doubt we will get involved in a potential costly legal battle over him. we got involved on one of those before remember...

those with the intelligence to remove their red, amber, and black tinted glasses every now and again will see the bigger picture with GC

we brought him in over bids from other sources on a contract we could not afford. there was an article on here previously about his young son and his disability which emphasises why family is so importnant to GC. if a club with whom he has great affinity and 8 years of history offers him financial stability over our joke shop club why would he not take it.

i have said many times before that although fans are loyal you cannot expect the same from a player with a short career and earning potential and young families.

fair play and good luck. lets hope that this provides an opportunity to someone else

As Ben Evans has been named in Warringtons squad for tomorrow and the Wire have a number of forwards out injured I can not see him returning the the Bulls any time soon if at all

I used Evans and Saltonstall as examples. But you're right, I can't see him being back. If he was coming back, I believe he would have been here by now.

Northern pig, how can any statement that ends in " ANUS " be consider constructive.
Gordon, we all see the bigger picture re GC, it's not a long career in RL and family is always first. But it was the method of his back door departure from the Bulls, that is annoying. As most fans will tell you. It begs the question, why walk like he did, why not just ask to go, I'm sure they would have let him, saving cash on his salary.

since when has the amount of time you can carry out a profession excuse the fact of acting in dishonourable way. He agreed a two year deal and now gone back on his word because he has been offered more money elsewhere on the eve of the season when we've paying him all winter and spending time and resources getting him fit for Hull FC, when we could have been training somebody else.

We've lost a key member of the team and all we want is for Hull and Carvell to do the decent thing and pay us compensation for breaking the contract.
