Bradford Bulls vice-captain Luke Gale pens new deal and then targets England spot

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Luke Gale in pre-season action for the Bulls Luke Gale in pre-season action for the Bulls

Luke Gale today gave the Bulls a massive boost by signing a contract extension which keeps him at the Provident Stadium until the end of 2016.

The England Knights playmaker has been courted by Hull FC during the past week but has instead pledged his future to Bradford.

Gale, 25, was under contract until the end of 2015 but the scrum half has now committed himself for another year.

He was recently handed the vice-captaincy by head coach Francis Cummins, who he worked with during his time in the Leeds Rhinos academy.

Gale said: “The club have been very supportive of me and I wanted to return the faith they have had in me.

“They’ve been loyal to me and now I want to show my loyalty to them. I’m delighted and excited to have extended my contract.

“The board of directors that are in now place and Francis are great and will take this club forward.

“We can put the uncertainty aside and be excited for the first game of the season.

“We’ve got to take every game as it comes but we have a good squad here and we are looking forward to getting the season started.

“I have ambitions to play for England and playing here will help me to achieve those ambitions.

“I want to make Steve McNamara sit up and take notice of me and I’ve got to do that through my performances. I can’t wait to get started.”

Head coach Cummins could barely conceal his delight at today’s announcement.

He said: “This deal means a lot for the team, the main thing being that our main playmaker has extended his contract - which is tremendous to see considering what we’ve been through - and also the commitment he is showing to the club and his team-mates is huge.

“Luke had an up and down season last year and had a lot of injuries early on but just seeing the change in him in the last 12 months both physically and mentally is incredible. He is ready for this season to start.

“He has being playing for England Knights, which shows to me that he is held in high regard in this sport and he has a bright future ahead of him.

“The rumours have been unsettling for us. It’s being a rollercoaster but with Adam Sidlow extending his contract and now Luke doing the same, that’s a massive vote of confidence for everyone at the club and what we are trying to do.”

lets be honest, you could not really blame any of them for wanting away!! whitehead, bateman, carvell.... the ones we have are primarily here because nobody else is interested and/or clubs are already at salary cap level. this is the main reason gale has stayed with us.

these guys have short careers and families to support, i dont blame then one bit!!

we are in a mess and anyone thinking otherwise is utterly deluded.

this is certainly positive news i agree, but is nothing more than one piece of glitter on a huge turd

lets hope for a positive outcome to the potential new investment/owner

Ramsey,
I assume you know Gale personally then.Either that or you should be working on the pier at Blackpool as a mind reader.Everybody knows we are struggling through but some people actually do believe in loyalty. You obviously do not but do not tar everybody with the same brush.

Spanglish, couldn't agree more. Reading, you got it spot on. I seem to think that some one said, he'd be gone by time Hull played Cats, how wrong can you be.

Gordon, we are aware that we are in the mire but to say what you said about Gale resigning, is abhorrent " glitter on a Richard. " I'll tell you something, that you obviously don't know or don't want to know. Gale and the other players are happy to be at Odsal, they have a team spirit second to none. Now get this ONLY Carvell, wanted to go. You should read more, it's not all in this paper.

You'll be the next to sign up, we've had Sidlow, Gale, any thoughts?

Delighted that we have some good news at last with regards Luke Gale.
I also know that he turned down Newcastle RU recently so he must be rated highly within the other code too.
However he was a bit hit and miss last year, so let's hope this two year deal allows him the freedom to express himself!

Come on you Bulls!

Sigh.... Pure delusion. I truly wish you were correct.

We hawked our players around over the past 4-6 weeks. Nobody wants them and the ones that did generate interest couldn't move due to salary caps being reached.

Fans have loyalty. Players do not. They have short careers and sadly we are a circus

I think we're coming out of the mess. Slimy agents have tried to make a few Bob and sadly Carvell has got caught up in it. Wonder how he feels now Hull have revealed they only wanted him cos they thought they'd get him for nothing. That's how much value they put on him NOTHING. He's turned into a scab to join a club that only wanted him because some of their other props are injured. How said that a player spent all his career building up respect then throws it away for what? a new car at most, to do all the extra travelling in. What a clown

Well once again it just shows you what an empty head you are. At the time of my post there were several 'comments' on here from idiots like you, referring to the standard of fitness at the Bulls. A couple of posters made it clear that they were not impressed by the fact that Nigel Halmshaw was Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Under 19's. Spurious comments about his gym and the standard of his work were and I just pointed out that the news that was about to come out of Warrington would shock some people but you were expecting a mega announcement. Two weeks after I posted on here, Nigel was appointed Head Strength and Conditioner for the Wolves. And all this despite empty heads like you stating that he wasn't good enough for our Under 19's. Check it out! I rest my case.
