UPDATED: Wells joins Huddersfield from Bradford City

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: The saga surrounding Nahki Wells' transfer has finally reached a conclusion The saga surrounding Nahki Wells' transfer has finally reached a conclusion

Nahki Wells has joined Huddersfield from City for an undisclosed sum.

Wells has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Championship club for a fee thought to be in the region of £1.5m. That will be further boosted by add-ons, including a sizeable sell-on clause.

Wells will go initially on loan so that he is eligible to feature in tomorrow's game against Millwall. But the permanent transfer deal has been signed and sealed.

Wells said of his move to the Terriers: "For football reasons and career-wise you have to make sure that when you move it's the right move, and this is the right move for me.

"I have had a lot of success and happy times at Bradford and also the opportunity to play in League One with them this season but now I've got the opportunity to play in the Championship with Huddersfield and I'm really looking forward to it."

Last season he helped Phil Parkinson's side to the Capital One Cup final and promotion from League Two.

Wells scored 26 goals in 54 games last season, and 53 in 112 matches since signing from Carlisle United in July 2011.

Huddersfield boss Mark Robins said of his new record signing - whose fee eclipses the £1.2m which lured Marcus Stewart from Bristol Rovers in 1996: "His achievements and potential meant that he was coveted by a host of Premier League and Championship clubs and I am delighted that he has chosen to join us.

"At just 23 he has huge potential, which he has proven at Bradford in the last two seasons. He fits into our ethos of buying young, hungry players who have experience and that we can develop.

"His goalscoring record over the last 18 months is hugely impressive and we believe that he is ready to make the step up to the Championship."

Very disappointing if Huddersfield Town is 'NW's' destination-our local and possibly bitterest rivals. The only good thing is, it would finally end the speculation once and for all and perhaps we could move on to 'City's needs' re: new signings.

PS: I am NOT one to buy football calendars for the simple reason that by mid year, some of the players have already left and who wants to be looking at a player for a month in City's colours who's now elsewhere?!!

However, in the 'HMV' shop the other day I noticed the City one was half price (3.99) and decided to get it. The January page shows 'NW'. 10/10 to the person who decided to put Nahki in January. At least it means if he goes this month, we don't have to be forced to look at him for a month with regret, later in the year!

As Fergie quoted in his book, Liverpool wanted to buy Heinze but their Chairman was told Man Utd do not sell to Liverpool and vice versa! Feel that should have been applied here.

Agreed! I couldn't care less that he's going to our local rivals. The move can't be based on ambition, purely money.

As someone else posted, Wolves would be more attractive than Huddersfield as a medium term career move. I'm not sure I'd like to work for Mark Robins.

If he's not an immediate success, those fans will be on his back.

Whats done is done. Who he goes to is down to him, business is business. All we can do is cherish the good times that he helped bcafc to achieve. Onwards and upwards, lets trust parky - like most of us do - and hope we pull out of the current slump. We are at present classed as lower league therefore unfortunately a club in our position can rarely stop their best players from leaving when money talks. Bring on Bristol!

Not our main rivals but disappointing to say the least. I guess without the financial clout we're nothing but a feeder club at the minute. A strange decision for me by Nahki but BCFC need to move on and use the transfer money wisely. How sweet it would be to be playing the best iality boys next season, better still if they get relegated and we zoom up to the Championship. Football, it's a funny old game.

Wolves have more bite than the Terriers - a funny move unless you want to make an instant hit in the Championship and make a name for another move onto the Premier League? If that is the case, we need a good sell on clause.

Even if Villa aren't interested, clubs like Wigan, Burnley, Blackburn have better track records and prospects. Or QPR or West Ham if they are taking a play on going up or staying up.

Perhaps Wolves did not offer that much - can Huddersfield pay up to £1.5 to £2 million? Did we not turn down around £1.4 million from Peterborough then more from Wolves presumably.

Hes going to the team who has met our valuation....
He doesnt have a big list of clubs to choose from. We have accepted a bid, and he wants a championship move, everyone wins.
Hes joining a team who he will play for very regular, and he doesnt have to move far.

Its a much better, and much less money orientated move than him wating for Villa or Sunderland to bid.

Dwight Gayle went to Peterborough, Charlie Austin went to Burnley.
Both ended up at bigger clubs because they played regular and impressed.

Now i just hope the management already have a list of targets. Its pathetic that we havent signed a left back on loan, i expect atleast 2 new signings next week. And Lee Gregory to join soon.

It's obvious that Nahki Wells wanted to leave city in January to either a Premier League or Championship......no
thing wrong with wanting to better yourself in a higher league.....and whether it be a top Premier team or a mid-table Championship team I for one think he will succeed. Does it matter whether it's Huddersfield or not? Not to me it doesn't, the only thing that matters to me is that we spend what money we get from this transfer on a few younger decent players to take Bradford City forward and upwards.

Good Luck to Nahki Wells I say, he has done Bradford City proud in the last 18 months!!

Let's take stock here.

Wells was taken on a free when released by Carlisle. In two and a half seasons, he has has helped to fire us to the final of a major cup competition at Wembley, than soon after to promotion from the doldrums of L2. He has continued his form and leaves us mid table in L1 and hopefully (and as we're lead to believe) with a kitty of circa £1.5-2M with add ons, to strengthen the squad. I for one see this as a good bit of business and thank him for his efforts while he was with us, and wish him all the best.

It is clear that we need funds to re shape this squad into real contenders. The sale of Wells will hopefully facilitate this, if not now then in the closed season. As we've seen this season when Wells has been injured, the goals dry up. One man doesn't make a team and where would we be moving forward if he was to pick up a serious injury?! We need an overhaul of the squad and without any funds, we may not have been able to do this. I for one think this could be a blessing in disguise for the Bantams

Not competitive? Are you for real we are midtable and only lost one game by more than one goal which shows even when we lost we were still competitive.

Spot on. Wells has been great and good luck too him, but it's the right time for him and us for him to go. Parky will strengthen with loans and in the summer with top signings to push the club further and continue the slow progression of the club

And Lee Gregory to join soon.

graham from villa (winger) and jameson from sheff weds (keeper) both 1 month loan deals

i guess they tide us over and allow parky time to fully assess what's needed bit it also gives us that short term cover

we need to spend what is available of the wells money v wisely. also, don't expect the anything like the full ammount. We won't even spend half of it!!

Now has i said about a week ago i have seen a young man at Scunthorpe on a few occasions who would replace Nahki very well indeed his name is SAM WINNAL. I believe he could be got for 250,000 max maybe cheaper but a cracking buy and a goal scorer. The Question is would CITY part with the money what ever lets hope they do invest and this young man would prove a bargain

Well, at least you paid a couple of Million £ for this one, instead of just breaking his leg

Are you struggling to read the stories on the Huddersfield Examiner website so decided to come and look at the pretty pictures over here?

Within a month, the town fans will be on Radio Leeds slagging him off. City are much bigger than Wells and our best player will soon return from injury. Thanks for the cash Mr Hoyle...much appreciated.

Uh oh, caps lock is stuck again.
Another one who has ventured over to a more thorough newspaper to look at the photo's, a very warm welcome sir.

I hope you enjoy your new striker. He won't be performing any miracles and you will still be s**t but hey ho, you splashed out in the transfer window for 6 minutes of hope, nothing wrong with that, hope is a good thing.

I had a dog once, Billy we called him, cheeky little thing... Walking through Huddersfield one day he got off the lead and ran off into a local park, as I don't reside in Huddersfield I was unsure as to where to even start looking, I had a walk around for a couple of hours but sadly, he was lost. We never saw him again...... A Town fan is probably using him as a sex slave as we speak.... so sad, poor Billy.

Hope I'm wrong, but I think the atmosphere BEFORE the match tomorrow is going to be a bit on the 'downbeat' side. I know supporters were slit on this, but the thought of our top player being transferred directly to our biggest local rivals is a real 'downer' for me, anyway.

I don't bear 'NW' any ill will whatever, but I do question whether the management could have not also got a similar or even better day with another club. I suppose to be fair, only insiders at City would know that, but this 'deal' is something it'll take me a little while to get over.

I suppose if the team go out tomorrow, put in 100% and achieve a good win it WILL help...... a bit. Over to you guys!

let the boy go with best wishes. If he continues to improve there will be a premiership club in for him in short order and we get the add ons. If he went to a premiership club now he would probably be a bench warmer, as he was at Carlisle and he doesnt do well when he is down the pecking order. I think overall, we win in this transaction. We have a good coaching staff that is more than capable of bringing on another like him. McBurnie will get more playing time and I think technically he shows more promise than Nahki did for that first 6 months after he arrived. We also should not rely on or play to one talented striker. We have seen what happens when he is off his game or injured. Lets bring in some talented youngsters and build for next year . They will not improve quickly enough sitting on the bench or playing youth teams.

I am sick to death of all the pathetic ramblings of those who are supposed to be City supporters. One minute Wells is flavour of the year and the next he is scum just because he decides to join a club which is a near neighbour of ours, and who are in a division higher than us. Those of you who wish the lad ill will are a disgrace and not true football supporters at all. I would assume that we have at least a 20% sell on clause should Wells move on from Huddersfield. Well if he gets crocked or seriously injured, what chance would there be then for City to get some extra monies? I remember in the 60's when we sold Derek Stokes to Huddersfield...he was our best player at the time and was scoring goals by the bucket load. We did not wish him any ill will, but instead wished him all the best and hoped that he would better himself, which he did. If you would but realise it, everyone will come out of this deal better off, and City will have some money, which if spent wisely will help to strengthen the team. Also remember that Wells has not yet passed his medical and the deal is not yet done, so those of you who wish him ill will, be very careful what you wish for, because he might fail the medical and have to come back to City. How will you treat him then? I dread to think.

So much for £3M! If the fee is £1.5M, it's a giveaway. We might as well have kept him until the summer. If he'd kept on scoring, we'd have probably got the same fee anyway and retained League 1 status as well. If we lose tomorrow the pressure will really be on.

We've panicked. There's three weeks of this window left. Plenty of time to get a better deal and get a replacement. Maybe it's not only the Bulls that have got cash problems.

Good luck to Wells, as others maybe should have waited until the summer. Let's hope the board give PP some money to spend on a striker and a quality midfielder, we cannot score goals with the team we have no disrespect to big James.I don't think we can rely on loan signings who can be recalled at any time. With the deal Nahki's agent has just got him, may be we should co-opt his agent onto our board because after being told by Mark Lawn it would take "silly money" for us to part with Nahki, all I can say is Mark Lawn and Julian Rhodes have a real funny sence of humour, some thing not ringing true down at Valley Parade IMO.

I've also been told that Mr Lawn is moving on & Mr Seabrook crisps is willing to step in, so there's some good news.

It will be interesting if the true financial details of this deal emerge. The 'reported' £1.5 million (even with add- ons) seems disappointing for a player who has been a consistent score and against teams of varying quality. If you compare it to the £1.5 million we got for Des Hamilton and £1 million for Dean Richards quite a few years ago, those two deals seem to put THIS one in the shade indicating the Terriers have got themselves a bargain!

Bad loss for City this especially in the current form City are in. Don't know where the goals will come from now. Inevitable he would go this transfer window but to the terriers of all teams,oh dear wells!. They maybe in the league above but this is for me analogous to a player leaving Man U for Liverpool. I for one thank Wells for his significant contribution over the last few years however I won't be welcoming him back if he returns with the terriers in a match.
Please oh please parky don't play Thompson up front.
Bad loss for City this especially in the current form City are in. Don't know where the goals will come from now. Inevitable he would go this transfer window but to the terriers of all teams,oh dear wells!. They maybe in the league above but this is for me analogous to a player leaving Man U for Liverpool. I recall reading that Mark Stewart's appeal decision is due next week. Could be a little matter of £200K+ to be found.
It's also possible that they may find in BCFC's favour. I wonder if we'd get costs if that was the case.

A few points

1. Jamie Lawrence taking the morale high ground ? Fu** off tea leaf.
2. IIs football. Players and agents are always chasing the deal. We lost JR to Blackburn, for 'football reasons'. Don't make laugh. Check your Rothmans. We'll be in the prem before them. Bigger club than Town ? I doubt it.But when a player says he wants to go, that's it, all you can do is get the best deal for your club. There will always be a new hero. If someone offers to double your wages , what do you do ?
3. Jury out wether he can do it at championship level. Time will tell
4. Town have made massive strides under DH, both on and off the field, this helps attract better players. I think NW can see the potential and that's fair enough
5. Town have nabbed a good player, its the merry go round, we are on the up and hold the cards, but we paid a fair price for it. Good business for both clubs. I hope NW scores the goals to get us in the play off s and the invisible man PP uses the funds to get you up. Good luck for the rest of the season. Derby Terriers

Really confused, that all makes perfect sense...but...you...
are...one..of them...

Price is a bit disappointing and I really think he could have done better than Town but he's only just out of League 2. He was worth nothing 18 months ago and we have now swapped him for a wad of cash. The future will tell us if this was a good deal and who benefitted most. I wonder if Nahki knows or cares about how his choice of club would be received in Bradford. Just wait until he leavws Town for Leeds next January.

Hopefully, both teams can play each other in the same division some time soon. Then your fans can come up with some more excuses to have not attended VP in any numbers and our fans can kick your lot up and down Huddersfield, like we did every time we visited Leeds Rd/Gayfarm throughout the years. Small Club, No Fans, Tinpot Club, Wells has moved up a division but that's all, he's in for a rude awakening when he realises just how small HTFC are! I blame his advisers.

You are absolutely right saying our promotion chances have dwindled after we sold him for what I believe is a shockingly low fee. As for your forums mocking our cheap season tickets, you have similar or less attendance figures despite regularly selling tickets for £13 on groupon. And as for race you to the prem, been there, done it and got the t shirt! All the best Nahki may have gone but Bradford City will forever be in our souls. Ctid.

To be fair I think all clubs should slash their prices to get us true supporters filling up the seats and creating electrifying atmos across the country. There was a time when the average paid hard worker could get into the ground to watch his team come rain or shine for the price of one hour of work. Not anymore.....it's the extortionate prices that are keeping people away. UTT

Totally understand the divided views, but he wanted to leave and there is nothing worse to destabilise a team than someone who does not want to be there.

City can now move on and build for hopefully a good run into the play offs, it could be his want away attitude that has been the affect on City's form

No passengers, no hands...no fans. You are getting excited about signing a league one player...we get excited at getting to cup finals.
We're not bothered bout his past....clearly, it's his ability to score shed loads of goals....he's no Jordan Rhodes but if he can score half as many as Rhodes he'll do for us!

No prizes for coming second.....I'll be impressed if you can name runners up from the last five league cups...oh but they'll remember Bradford won't they, as the minnows that over achieved that year. Enjoy the Johnson's plant pot trophy this year!

Good luck Nahki! & well done Mr Lawn you have driven away the one player we could have built a good team around. I have seen this all before over the last 30 years I have been watching city. At least we got a few quid for someone who cost us nothing! Let's hope we can use the money wisely & build in the summer.
I've also been told that Mr Lawn is moving on & Mr Seabrook crisps is willing to step in, so there's some good news.
i think city will more likely get walkers

A dispicable peice of business for City fans to stomach! Akin to Mo Johnson joining Rangers or Sol Campbell going to Arsenal from spurs! Football is a game of passion so I ain't going to sit on the fence here! He could have gone to any team in the world for me but not that lot! Even Leeds I would have understood but not town who are punching above their weight with Hoyles money as we are punching below ours with desicions like this! Smaller fan base as we match now if not suppass .Smaller stadium! I'm more disgusted with Lawn and Rhodes for sanctioning such a deal! And here's the most disturbing fact: with the money from last season all we have to really show is 3 bench warmers in Kennedy, Yeates and Taylor! So where is the Wells money going to go Mr chairmen! Gordon Gibbs next ride at flamingo land! We're going backwards again and this really does feel worse than losing Deano to Hull before our last relegation! A very black day for the club!!!!

Well, I am just glad it is all over, when a player wants to go, then you have no option but to sell them.

In an ideal world you don't want to sell him to your local rivals, but i want the deal that is best for Bradford City.

Must admit I was surprised that he went there, as at best they are a mid table side and you feel are a long way off even challenging for a place in the Premiership.

I presume the plan will be to start him up front with Vaughan, so it will be interesting to see how he fairs, without someone to do the dirty work for him, plus win the flick ons for him to run onto, like Hanson used to do.

The most important thing now is that we preserve our League 1 status, and not assume we are safe like last time. With two games coming up against underachieving sides, who are only going to improve under new managers, we could anxiously be looking over our shoulder.

I don't expect Parky to have much of the money to spend, as most of it will go on covering this seasons deficit, and providing a competitive budget for the next. That isn't a criticism, just the reality.

We are therefore in the short term going to probably have to rely on loan signings. To ensure our safety, I feel we need two strikers, one who has a bit of pace, and is proven at scoring goals at this level; a midfielder with a good engine, and a left back who ideally can play either side.

We have just been poor and bad team selection.

The best time to rebuild your team is in the summer, not January !

It was the right decision to sell Wells, just not to them !

But if that was the only place he wanted to go, it's hard for the club to stop him. The vast majority of the blame must go to Nahki himself.

I am dreading today's game. The atmosphere will be foul. If I was Mark Lawn, I would stay away, for my own safety !

Let's hope the lads can come together in adversity and get the result that we desperately need.

i agree about best time to rebuild team is summer ,but this rubbish about lawn staying away is a joke ,just goes to show how fickle city fans are,can people not see without lawn/rhoades money and hard work we wouldnt even have a team to support ,if lawn decides to walk away what do you think would happen to city,,do you think there would be a que of investers ,i dont,.What were the directors supposed to do ,wells wanted to go and must be happy with deal he,s got even imo its crap move ,contracts mean nothing nowdays ,Fingers crossed parky will try get some good higher div loan signings in to keep us up and not just players who have played for him befor as the ones he has signed are clearly not good enough ,he signed them but wont even play them when we are struggling, the man has thrown away lot of money in wages, the problem is the wage cap we need to get rid of some of the rubbish he signed,IE gray de vita ,bates, kennedy, even reid ,the man cant cross the ball,,until this happens citys hands are tied ,not feeling to confident today they have got a great foward line and cant see are defence being good enough to keep them out ,just glad it seems rest of there team seem ****,lets hope we get few free kicks and maybe nick a goal

Wow, Friday night card school and look what happens the best iality boys come out to play, Like I've said previously Wells going to Hudds makes no sense in football terms, arguably they are a smaller club, certainly going nowhere fast. Obviously Bradford City football club have played in the premiership, Huddersfield probably never will. BCFC are skint, it's simple economics for Wells, basically all about the money. For Hudds, it's just a local **** contest. I think most BCFC fans know Wells wont make a big enough difference in the Championship unless he'd gone to a team like Leicester City fc..

Nahki Wells, Nahki Wells...Nahki, Nahki Wells!
Indeed, this above being a prime example.

What a load of old tripe son.....I can't even be bothered to muster up a counter to this utter cods wallop. You're one of those bitter, deluded people who supports a team but knows absolute jack about football! UTT

The truth hurts doesn't it, you can't muster an argument because you haven't the capacity to do so. Deep down you know that Bradford City Football Club is bigger and has far far more potential than HTFC who only have a large cheque book, your star has been on the wane for nearly a century. Suck it up there's more bad news in the offing, the reality check that HTFC will never again get to a major cup final and will never reach the Premier League. Nahki as good as he is, wont be enough .

Ive heard of a dog walker, never a chicken walker.

You lot look at the video on the "Police deal with crash between ambulance and sports car in Bradford" page.
Keep watching the top right of the video and watch all the illegals piling out of the house.
We must be full of them.
