Bingley Bees produced a storming fightback to beat Lincoln Roses 3-2 and book their first-ever cup final appearance.

The Bees fell two goals behind in the Yorkshire League Cup C Group tie but turned the tables in the second half, culminating in a late winner from Bill Livingstone.

Lincoln opened brightly and went ahead in the seventh minute from a deflected shot – and the hosts were rewarded for having the better of first-half play with a second goal five minutes before the break.

It needed a rousing half-time team talk was to galvanise Bingley into action and Gavin Waddell reduced the arrears ten minutes into the second period.

Gradually the Bees increased the pressure and Stephen Booth brought them level with 11 minutes left.

Extra time now looked a distinct possibility but Livingstone pounced on a loose ball and drove into the D with only seconds left on the clock before firing past the advancing keeper to net the winner.

The Bingley players had also needed an interval blast to raise them from their slumbers in the previous day’s league match as they struggled against bottom side Huddersfield Dragons Fifths.

The Dragons had picked up just a single point from six Division Five North match before the weekend but took advantage of their hosts’ lethargy to lead 1-0 at half-time.

But skipper Ben Clough’s words had the desired effect as the Bees stormed to a 5-1 win that left them third in the table with games in hand on the teams above them.

Michael Crawshaw quickly levelled the scores and just three minutes later Chris Silberberg earned a lead.

Bingley were now well on top but had to wait until the final five minutes to put the game to bed, with two more Crawshaw strikes completing his hat-trick and a rare Jason Johnson goal completing the tally.

Bingley’s ladies first team lost 3-0 at third-placed University of Leeds Seconds to leave them in the Premier Division basement position.

But the Bees seconds scored a welcome 2-0 victory over Doncaster Independent to end a run of four defeats.

Second-bottom Doncaster had started just a place behind Bingley in the Division Four table but ended the day four adrift as goals from Jenny Bone and Maddy Silberberg lifted their side to seventh.

The first goal came from a penalty corner, with Bone following up after Ciara Hynds’ initial shot had been saved.

Silberberg then doubled the lead after another rebound before the interval with her first senior goal, having recently stepped up from the junior ranks.

Lucy Walsh was voted player of the match for her tireless efforts looking for further goals.
