Phil Parkinson felt City’s first away win of the season should have been more emphatic.
The Bantams sent Gillingham to the bottom of League One with a 1-0 victory at the Priestfield Stadium, Garry Thompson applying the decisive touch from a Gary Jones corner.
Parkinson said: “We should have scored more but missed chances. Another day we will take them.
“But when you don’t take your chances, it’s important that you stand strong as a team and I thought we did that.
“It was a dangerous game. Gillingham have not been losing 3-0 or 4-0 and Martin (Allen) did feel that a win was coming.
“We knew they would come at us and we had to withstand that. We did it by playing in a positive fashion and not sitting back and soaking up pressure.”
