Eccleshill United have been the forgotten club in cup football this season but they are hosting a famous club with knockout traditions in the FA Vase on Saturday.

Bishop Auckland are the visitors as the Eagles play their first cup tie of the campaign, and if they can take their league form into the game they could be progressing at the expense of the Northern League outfit.

The Eagles are flying high in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One, which is one step below the Northern League top tier, where renowned cup battlers Bishop Auckland play their football.

Eccleshill football chairman Adrian Benson said: “This will be a welcome game for the players and our supporters.

"Lee (Duxbury) has got the squad playing some marvellous football, and our fans are appreciating that as much as our league position.

“Bishop’s are a big club in non-league terms and they might bring a few with them, so we hope the locals turn out for us. It promises to be a cracking cup tie so we don’t want to be outnumbered on the terraces.”

Albion Sports face one of Bishop’s rivals but Kulwinder Sandhu’s men will be clear favourites to win through this second-qualifying round stage.

Sports have home advantage against Billingham Town, who are rock bottom.

Albion will be looking to bounce back after being knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend at Marske United, who were at the opposite end of the table. Marske were top when they beat Albion 3-0.

Silsden also face a top club when they host North Shields but, unlike Bishop’s and Marske, they are top of the Northern League’s second tier.

Shields are unbeaten in their league and have a huge goal difference but they were knocked out of this season’s FA Cup, by Albion, on their last trip to this area.

Liversedge are also at home - against one of Silsden’s North West Counties League Premier Division counterparts.

Sedge’s visitors Colne will not have travelled far and they will be seen as slight favourites, despite being away from home.

Liversedge have had a poor start to the season and are a lowly 15th in their division with a quarter of their league games already gone but they have picked up in recent weeks.

Thackley, meanwhile, have begun much better as they currently top the Toolstation Premier Division but they have a tough away tie to negotiate.

The Dennyboys head to Darlington Railway Athletic, who are in Division Two of the Northern League but are much higher up the table than Whitehaven, who Thackley visited and struggled to overcome in the first qualifying round.
