Guiseley’s caretaker manager Mark Bower could see his club take a massive stride towards turning around their indifferent start in the Skrill North tomorrow at Boston United.

The former Bradford City captain has been thrust into the hot-seat after boss of six years Steve Kitterick was relieved of his duties on Wednesday afternoon.

Bower – who was player-coach and says he would be open to the prospect of taking the Guiseley post on a permanent basis – paid tribute to Kittrick.

He said: “Steve has done a lot for Guiseley over a long period and I thanked him for bringing me here.

“I wished him all the best and he did likewise with me but I’m sure it won’t be long before he’s back in management somewhere.”

The defender will be in charge tomorrow alongside Kittrick’s assistant Chris Holland against a Boston side who have enjoyed a much better opening to their campaign.

However, the Lions would go level on points with their hosts with a win and could climb into the top three if other results go their way.

Guiseley go into the game on the back of a second home defeat, with last Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Brackley – who were their promotion rivals throughout the last campaign – costing Kittrick his job.

In their six games so far the Lions have won two, drawn two and lost two, not the kind of consistency the board, or Kittrick, were looking for.

The supporters were behind Kittrick and his coaching staff right to the end though and the chatter from the stands at Nethermoor last Saturday centred around how many players the manager had lost in the close season and how soon he would be able to get his new-look squad settled.
