Leeds United chairman Salah Nooruddin has urged the club’s fans to swap a seat in the pub or their living room for one in the Elland Road stands for tomorrow lunchtime’s televised clash with QPR.

A disappointing crowd of 23,766 turned up for Leeds’ televised home derby draw with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, but both Brian McDermott’s side and QPR are unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship this season and with a place at the top of the table at stake, Nooruddin is hoping for an improved turn-out.

“We have made a good start to the season and the chance to go top of the table, even if it is only for a few hours, is a huge incentive for everyone,” said Nooruddin.

“The game is televised and we know there will be a worldwide audience watching but we would urge as many Leeds fans as possible to come down to Elland Road and get behind the team and show everyone what this club is all about when we come together.”

Scott Wootton is not expecting to force his way into the Leeds defence tomorrow despite his goal-scoring debut at Doncaster.

The former Manchester United centre half netted in the 3-1 Capital One Cup win which has earned the Whites a plum draw at Newcastle in round three.

But Wootton is prepared to wait for his chance to dislodge the regular back-four pairing.

He said: “There is good competition for places and I’d like to think that I have done myself no harm.

“Tom Lees and Jason Pearce both had good games last weekend but it is up to the manager.” I’m sure they would be disappointed if they lost their places after the 2-1 win at Ipswich.”
