City boss Phil Parkinson has made defender Matt Taylor his fourth signing of the summer – paving the way for Michael Nelson to head to Hibernian.

Taylor, 31, left Charlton at the end of last season and was a free agent until Parkinson snapped him up on a two-year deal.

Nelson has joined Hibs also on a two-year contract and for a nominal fee, with Parkinson happy with both moves.

The Bantams chief said: "Matt is a good signing for us.

"He played a key role in the Charlton side that got promoted to the Championship a couple of seasons ago and he was part of a successful Exeter side before that.

"He's a good age for a centre-half and he's a winner.

"I am sure the supporters will enjoy watching him play because he gives it his all. He will certainly add to what we have in the squad already.

"Nelse (Michael Nelson) had the opportunity to go back up to Scotland, but I needed both deals to work before either one could go through.

"We have a tight-knit group here, so I couldn't afford to give someone up if I wasn't able to bring someone else in.

"That meant we pretty much spent all of yesterday (Wednesday) working away to ensure both deals got gone.

"Nelse came in last season and played his part in helping the side into the play-offs.

"He has managed to effectively secure a further year on his contract with this move and we wish him all the very best for the future."

Nelson, 33, won the League Cup with Kilmarnock during his previous spell in Scotland and played for City in their last pre-season friendly at Harrogate Town on Tuesday.

Nelson, who had one year remaining on his deal at Valley Parade, said: "I'm delighted to sign for Hibs.

"It's a great move for me and I can't wait to get started back playing in the Scottish Premiership.

"The move came around pretty quickly, but as soon as the initial contact was made, I was keen to the get the deal done.

"I had no hesitation about joining Hibs and I'm really excited about helping the team to succeed this season.

"Obviously I knew Jimmy Nicholl before from my time at Kilmarnock and enjoyed working with him.

"I was also impressed with what the manager, Pat Fenlon had to say about what he wants to achieve here at Hibs and I'm excited about being a part of it."
