A magnificent second-round performance saw Baildon Golf Club’s James Firth clinch the Bradford Union Amateur Championships at Shipley.
After carding 75 in his opening round of the 36-hole event, Firth had it all to do after Rob Hillas of Shipley scored a three-under 69 on his home course.
But Hillas could not repeat his heroics over the second 18 holes, playing out a 79 to eventually finish on six over on the par 71 course.
Firth then shot the best round of the event with a four-under 67 to eventually finish at level, three shots clear of two more Shipley players in Bradford scratch team duo Jamie Mountain and DC Rowley, whereas T&A golfer of the year Will Whiteoak finished six shots off the pace.
