Rob O’Brien has completed the short move from Horsfall Stadium to Throstle Nest after committing himself to Farsley.

The skilful and industrious midfielder began last term at Bradford Park Avenue in the Conference North but ended it on loan at The Nest.

O’Brien was Avenue’s club captain and he will be the on-field leader for Neil Parsley’s Evo-Stik Division One North outfit in the coming season.

O’Brien will sign on when the transfer window opens on July 1 but he made his intentions clear when he told the Avenue website: “Before the rumour mill starts to get going, I wanted to let you all know that with regret I will be leaving Bradford in the summer to start a new challenge at Farsley.

“I have had an amazing four years at the club and want to thank you all for your support over this period of time.

"I have made lasting friendships with players, fans and volunteers over the years and wish you all every success in the future and hope that Park Avenue continue their progression through the leagues.

“From a personal point of view, I feel the time is right to begin a new chapter in my playing career and I am looking forward to the challenge of trying to bring Farsley back to the level that they belong in.

"It would be nice to see a few familiar faces down at Throstle Nest if you have a spare Saturday. I’m sure our paths will cross again in the near future.”

Farsley boss Neil Parsley told their website: “Robbie has been the captain of a few successful sides at this level, and when he joined at the end of the season, myself, Sim (Bambrook) and Jacko (Mark Jackson) admired his leadership qualities.

“Hence when we were discussing terms with him, being captain was mentioned and Robbie said he would love to captain the side.”

Parsley is revamping his squad following a poor season and he is delighted to have brought Lee Ellington back to Throstle Nest.

Ellington was top scorer for Farsley Celtic when the old club was in the Conference North.

Parsley said: “Lee had a stop-start season last year as things didn’t work out for him at Matlock Town. He became available a couple of weeks ago and we struck a deal to bring him back soon after. He will be a good signing for us.”
