Julian Rhodes has called on City to rule Northampton at Wembley on and off the pitch.

The joint-chairman believes the fans will again have a massive part to play in securing a return to League One football after a six-year absence.

Rhodes is confident that the Bantams will win the battle of the stands and give Phil Parkinson’s side that extra incentive to clinch next Saturday’s play-off final.

The attendance could topple the 61,589 record for League Two set in 2007 when the new-look Wembley had just re-opened. Rhodes is banking on the travelling City army to be in the majority.

He said: “Northampton took 40,000 to Wembley the last time they were there but we definitely want to have more fans than them this time.

“As we’ve shown this season, our lads really can perform in front of a big crowd. It’s a huge advantage.

“I know it’s a big ask because people have spent a lot of money watching us this season but we need one last big push from everybody to get over that final hurdle.”

Rhodes praised the volume of the backing at Valley Parade during the first play-off semi-final.

Although Burton won 3-2 on the night, he thought the backing was instrumental in City forcing their way back in the tie.

“The atmosphere at home was extraordinary. It has been great all season but that in particular stood out.

“I had a friend of mine with me who’s a Leeds fan and he even said that the hairs on the back of his neck were on end.

“To think we were 3-1 down at the time and managed to turn it round – the fans can pat themselves on the back because they played a big part.

“We’ve got a great chance at Wembley if they can produce that kind of atmosphere again.

“We don’t want the season to end flat. We do want to make amends really for the Capital One Cup final.

“While getting to a major cup final is brilliant, it was very difficult to go there against a side with the quality of Swansea.

“I turned to my wife afterwards and said that we’d just have to come back and make amends in the play-off final and win. You’ve always got a chance against a team from the same division.

“That’s what we want to do and ideally we’ll have an even greater chance if we can sell all of our 39,000 tickets.”

Tickets are available online through the Ticketzone website or by calling 08444-777774. Fans can buy up to nine at a time. The deadline for sales imposed by Wembley is midday on Wednesday.

Tickets already purchased will be posted out from Monday onwards.
