Outgoing boss Vince Brockie has been left “amazed” by the season one of their rivals has had.

Brockie was sternly lectured by match referee Gary Chapman, who was in charge of his final game before retiring, when Thackley hosted Brighouse Town earlier this month.

The fiery Scot is ultra competitive even in the dugout and he felt his team were not getting fair treatment.

However, once the dust had settled and the red mist had cleared, Brockie was fulsome in his praise of a side and opposing manager that had just beaten his team 3-0.

Brockie said: “Brighouse have got good players and have had a fantastic season to be going into the last couple of games competing with the likes of Scarborough and Bridlington.

“When you see them play as well as they did against us it doesn’t surprise you that they are promotion candidates. But what is surprising is the company they are keeping.”

Ironically, Town’s bid for the title floundered a week later when they were beaten at home by Scarborough.

But Brockie feels that should take nothing away from the strides made by Town this season and their achievement of finishing runners-up.

Brockie added: “Paul Quinn must be some manager. Not only has he built a good squad and brought players in who have improved as they have gone along but to do it on the budget he has is brilliant.

“That is not disparaging to Brighouse as a club. They are a well-run, hard-working outfit but to push long established clubs like Brid and Scarbor-ough – with their fanbase – as they have this season is nothing short of amazing.”
