Bradford Park Avenue will be looking to sign off with a win when they host struggling Histon in the final game of their first season back in Conference North.

After just missing out on the play-offs, which was a remarkable effort from a club that was only promoted into the higher league last May, Avenue’s confidence was hit and the adrenaline ebbed away.

They go into Saturday's home game on the back of two consecutive defeats. However, they will be favourites for a home win against 19th-placed Histon.

Avenue will also be fired up by the prospect because it would be their 20th victory in Blue Square Bet North this season.

Avenue lost 2-1 at Bishop’s Stortford last Saturday and at home to Colwyn Bay by the same scoreline on Monday night.

Following those defeats, press officer Lewis Sale said: “They were disappointing results and nobody wanted the season to end this way.

"The players competed in the games but there were signs that it was coming towards the end of a very long and draining season.

“There is no suggestion that we are going out on a whimper but after it was confirmed that we couldn’t make the play-offs, because of last weekend’s loss, the sparkle fizzled out a little.

“But the players have rested since Monday, and John (manager Deacey) will have lifted them again because he always does.

"I’m sure they will want to send the home supporters away happy and I’m sure the fans will want to show their appreciation and send the players into the close season with a good feeling.”

One thing is certain - Deacey will want his players to put on a show.

The Bradford boss has very forthright views on how the game should be played and he has built a team that has, for the most part, entertained throughout the campaign.

The only fly in the ointment could be selection problems caused by injuries.

Farsley’s tough run-in in Evo-Stik Division One North takes a brief interlude on Saturday but they are still up against a club above them in the table.

Throstle Nest welcomes Warrington Town, who are two places above Neil Parsley’s men but a huge 15 points better off.

Farsley go into the game after home and away fixtures against champions Skelmersdale United and a trip to fourth-placed Mossley in the space of eight days.

Farsley will be keen to make the most of a match against a fellow mid-table outfit because on Monday they head to second-placed New Mills for what will be their penultimate fixture.
