Albion Sports Albion’s bid for the Baris Northern Counties East League Division One title was given a timely boost with a handsome midweek win.

A 5-2 stroll at home over Hemsworth MW was enough to take Kulwinder Sandhu’s men back into second spot.

They will be level on points with leaders Athersley MW if they win their games in hand and have a vastly superior goal difference, and they still have their rivals to play at home.

Sandhu said: "It was a good win but it meant more to us that the game was actually played because we have had a lot of problems. After all the adverse weather, we really need to get a run of games going.”

Albion have been affected by the weather, as all the clubs have been, but have also faced some blank Saturday’s because they ground share.

Bradford Park Avenue are on a higher step on the football pyramid and have been tenants at the Bradford Council-owned Horsfall Stadium a lot longer than Albion.

Circumstances have been such that Albion have had no Saturday fixture even when the weather would not have caused any problems with the pitch.

Sandhu added: “We were 1-0 down at half-time on Wednesday, so there were some words - let’s say of encouragement - in the dressing room before they went back out but the lads really turned in a good second-half performance.

“It was satisfying to have a good a win and go back second but we need a clear run so that we can build on that.

"Will that happen so that we can gain some momentum and get promoted? Only time will tell.”
