Brighouse Town’s 2-0 win at Staveley MW keeps them at the summit of the Baris Northern Counties East Premier Division.

The home side may not be the force they were in the first half of the season, before their major backer ran into money troubles, but they still made it difficult for Brig’.

A Ryan Hall strike gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half and a Nick Jaggar goal just minutes after the break knocked the wind out of Staveley’s sails.

A rare defeat for title rivals Bridlington made it a very good day for Paul Quinn’s men.

Spokesman Ray McLaughlin said: “It was a fantastic result for us and, I think, a deserved one. I thought we did a professional job on them and controlled the game from start to finish.

“Staveley have lost a lot of players and their manger since their main sponsor was forced to pull out but the new people have brought some good lads in. They might not have the flair of the old side but they are bread and butter players who work hard.

“The second goal just over two minutes into the second half killed them off. If Ryan Damms’ shot had not been tipped onto the bar by Tom Taylor it could have been a very nervy last 15 minutes.

“We always felt we needed a third goal but thankfully we still won even though we didn’t get it.”

Brighouse remain just one point above second-placed Scarborough Athletic. They came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Pickering Town, while Bridlington suffered a surprise defeat against Tadcaster Albion.
