The weather denied Brighouse Town a chance to top the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division table in midweek, so they will look to consolidate second place on Saturday.

Town are two points behind leaders Scarborough Athletic but have a game in hand and should have faced mid-table Heanor Town on Wednesday.

That was off because of the snowfall, and even though they have home advantage this weekend over tenth-placed Retford United, their two main title rivals (Boro and third-placed Bridlington Town) both have games they are expected to win.

Paul Quinn has not let the defeat at Newport on the Isle of Wight in the last 32 of the FA Vase affect his club’s promotion hopes as they have won three league games on the trot since that 2-1 loss.

Thackley face another top-eight clash as they make the journey to the club immediately above them.

The Dennyboys are seventh and their hosts are Barton Town Old Boys.

Vince Brockie’s men trail the home side by four points but have two games in hand.

Completing the trio of top-flight sides having away games this weekend are Liversedge, who make the short journey to Glasshoughton Welfare - a clash between two other clubs who are close in the table.

Sedge are 15th, directly above their hosts, but are in no danger of slipping down. They have three games in hand and a six-point cushion over Glasshougton.

In Division One, Albion Sports were also thwarted by the weather in midweek.

They could have reclaimed second place with a win at lowly Askern Villa on Wednesday but should stay on the tails of the two clubs above them on Saturday when they journey to fourth-from-bottom Appleby Frodingham.

Albion could get a surprise boost if neighbours Eccleshill United pull off a shock result.

The Eagles are rebuilding and are currently 17th but they have the capability to beat anyone on their day and host leaders Athersley Recreation.
