Wembley fuss is great but Bradford City must refocus on promotion target
Ricky Ravenhill column
It’s amazing what happens when you are going to Wembley.
All of a sudden, people can’t do enough for us and it was great to be measured up for our suits on Tuesday. You could really feel the quality.
We’ve also been given new boots because we’re in the spotlight. That makes a nice change from having to buy them.
You get a taste of what it must be like in the Premier League when you receive all this free stuff and we’re enjoying every minute of it.
It’s a one-off thing. At least 80 per cent of the lads will never get to a cup final again. We’re having our 15 minutes of fame and it’s fun while it lasts.
But for now, we know we’ve got to focus on the league. It didn’t quite work out last week, especially in the first half, and we need to start picking up points.
Two from the last 12 is relegation form, not promotion, if we’re being honest. As the gaffer keeps reiterating, our priority is to get out of this league.
As nice as Wembley is, I’d still take promotion over the cup run all day long and our league form of late has not been good enough.
The most consistent teams will be the ones who go up. You need to produce week in, week out.
Look at Wycombe, who were nowhere and now they are only a couple of points behind us after stringing four or five wins together.
Gillingham are one of the big teams and the type we love to play against and hopefully Saturday can be the start of a run for us.
All the lads are going to miss Ritchie, who left last week. You won’t get a better professional as well as being a top lad.
It never worked out for him but that happens in football. People’s faces don’t fit sometimes and you have to move on.
Ritchie does everything right, he watches what he eats and drinks and works hard at everything. He’d always come in with a smile on his face and I’m sure he will find another club.
