Omar Khan urges Bradford City fans to back Bradford Bulls
7:20am Friday 1st February 2013 in Sport
By Ross Heppenstall, Bradford Bulls Reporter
Omar Khan would like to see more City fans supporting Bulls - starting on Sunday at home to Wakefield
Omar Khan has appealed to City supporters to back the Bulls and help generate a crowd of well over 10,000 in Sunday’s Super League opener at home to Wakefield.
The Bulls owner and City club ambassador has closely followed the Bantams’ stunning exploits in reaching the Capital One Cup final against Swansea.
He will be at Wembley for the historic showdown and wants Bantams fans to show similar support for Francis Cummins’ men.
Khan said: “Phil Parkinson and his players have done amazing things for the city of Bradford and made everyone very proud.
“I know many Bulls fans have been supporting them and will be going to Wembley later this month.
“I would like to see more City fans coming to the Provident Stadium to support the Bulls – starting this weekend against Wakefield.
“It’s the first game of the season and we want a big crowd of over 10,000. There has been a lot to organise, but we are raring to go.
“Before the game we will have the first five acts from the OK Bull Factor performing on the pitch and there will also be a play area for children.
“We are all working together and it’s a great feeling. Francis has worked so hard with the team and there is a buzz around the place.”
The Bulls have sold 6,673 season tickets but general manager Ryan Whitcut said: “We’re hoping to get a huge walk-up of between 5,000 and 6,000 and believe we can get a crowd of between 12,000 and 13,000.”
The Bulls confirmed yesterday that their home match against St Helens, originally scheduled for the day of the Capital One Cup final, will take place on Saturday, February 23, with a 2pm kick-off.
Meanwhile, James Donaldson and Adam O’Brien are poised to line up for Dewsbury Rams in their Championship opener at Doncaster on Sunday.
The pair impressed while training with the rest of the Dewsbury squad on Wednesday evening and could get the nod if, as expected, they are not in the frame for the Bulls this weekend.
The Bulls Under-19s claimed an exhilarating 26-18 win over Wakefield in their opening game last night but it came at a cost as Curtis Naughton sustained a suspected knee injury.
The full back was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary to be assessed after being carried from the field in the first half before Sam Wood's late try - his second of the game - sealed the win for Paul Medley's side.

In all seriousness its no just just asking us to turn upthey should have maybe done a discount for one game e.g. City season ticket holders get in half price or somthing. A lot of them probably arent going to want to shell out full whack when most are going to these extra cup games and Wembley which certainly arent cheap.

I'm was gutted for the die hard fans at Odsal after the club conned them out of their hard earned money with lies and false dawns before Mr Khan took the reins.
Hopefully they can move on and become a force again in the Super League.
But I, as a 22 year Bradford City season ticket holder, will not go within a mile of Odsal !
Best of luck.

I would think City supporters are just that.
City supporters!
If they were Bulls supporters they would be going anyway? wouldn't they?
I dont go to the football for the sake of it been Bradford, i am a football fan that loves football and like watching a local team which happens to be City and even in league 2 we get a good game of football to watch even if we get beat, i can appreciate other teams playing good at city and enjoy watching them.
i wouldn't go to the bulls because i dont really like rugby, i would be going just because its bradford and really i dont care what happens to them because i am a football fan and i care more about what happens to bradford city and football.
there will be people who support both which is fair enough. but most people dont. IMO most can only budget for one these days in balancing money/time/family i think is why people dont go, money dont grow on trees!

I bet he paid sod all to be walking round the pitch before the games.
exactly what did he bring to the party?
I am sure he enjoyed travelling to nots county, and watford away as well.
Club ambassador, never really done anything? Zesh Rahman did all the work in getting the local asian community down to city.
but i do hope your Britains got the bull factor, pop factor x factor goes really well and fills odsal.

Never going to happen. Bulls fans (majority of) were happy to see Bradford City crash and burn when we were in danger of dropping out of the league and going out of business. And I use that phrase deliberately despite of obvious bad taste as it was the phrase used by MANY Bulls fans at the time.

I've been a City and Northern/Bulls fan all my life and I know countless others like me. There's lots of RL fans who aren't football lovers but to say there is widespread antipathy towards City is rubbish.

Some people like both sports that's why they will be at Wembley or watching on TV.
The Bulls have won Everything there is to win in the last 10 years More Than Once and been to wembley many times.
If football is your game then good luck to you and City.
It isn't my game so I won't even watch it on TV.
Good luck City but I won't be watching your sport. I think it's boring but that's just my opinion.

By the way, the animosity is generally from City fans, it's the soccer mentality unfortunately, a few rotten apples, if there's animosity the other way, it probably down to people like Wembley bound and Voice of Reason who spend more time denigrating the bulls than they do commenting on city stories.

They don’t go to every home game but when their season ends they do get behind the BULLS wholeheartedly and vice versa the BULLS supporters
I’m sure that not just the BULLS fans but the majority of Bradford’s population will be wishing CITY well on 24/02/13
After all just look at the pride that CITY have brought to Bradford.
So when it comes right down to it why can’t we just support both.

Hope you're not referring to me. Mainly because I didn't give anything back. I can understand City shirts maybe not getting stick in the last few years what with the Bulls' support dropping (like ours I'll admit) and needing all the support they can get, but the last time I went they were around the top of the league and probably were a bit more ballsy.

I seem to say this all the time but take a look at the city of Leeds. Being from Leeds means supporting every single club in the City. Theres a sense of pride in the city that creates unity with no United versus Rhino's sniping. I'm heartened by the people above from both sports that want us to stop this absurd them and us mentality. I think you get a real sustained buzz when you all collectively support one another without sneering at 'puff-ball' or 'egg-chasers'. At the top of our respective clubs our owners get on well so maybe its time we on the terraces started to act more like grownups and support anything with 'Bradford' in the name.
