Avenue will be looking to bank more points from tonight's trip to Shepshed Dynamo in UniBond League Division One before they are sidetracked in two cup competitions next week.

The Bradford club beat basement outfit Chorley at the weekend in what was their first league game for a fortnight. That hauled them back up to fourth place, with games in hand on two of the clubs above them.

Those spare matches will mean nothing if Avenue cannot eat into the lead of the teams with the points already on the board. However, it will be a difficult game tonight as Leicestershire club Shepshed are eighth and have promotion hopes of their own.

"I'm sure it will be a hard game but we have got to go there and try to get something from it," said assistant boss Clive Freeman.

"The way we are playing, we have every chance because it is coming together. If we get our best available players, which is never a given for such a long journey in midweek, we can win at any club in this division."

Saturday's 3-0 victory over Chorley, in atrocious conditions at Horsfall Stadium, was Avenue's ninth since a defeat. That could reach double figures with a draw tonight but Freeman insists they have set their sights higher.

"I'm not a great lover of statistics but it does make impressive reading when you look back on it," he said.

"The players are in great spirits and they are desperate to keep it going. Confidence is high, things are looking good and they want another win." Right back and long-throw expert Steve Robinson has left the club and been given permission to re-sign for Frickley Athletic. The player cited the travelling from his home to Bradford as the reason for his request to be released.

Avenue have been building a squad and although Robinson has gone, they have re-signed winger Tony Lennon, the brother of Tottenham and England wideman Aaron, from Guiseley.
