Frost followed by heavy rain left many West Riding County Amateur League pitches unplayable for the third successive Saturday.

But two of the three scheduled Bradford & District FA Saturday Senior Cup ties were completed, with Old Headingley and Fields Sports & Social making progress.

Ashley Austin struck a decisive hat-trick as West Yorkshire League side Old Headingley booked a semi-final place with a 3-2 extra-time home victory over St Bedes Old Boys of the Yorkshire Amateur League.

Old Headingley took an early lead after St Bedes lost possession in midfield but Ian Horrocks converted a Lee Cornforth pass to equalise and then drilled home a shot from the edge of the area to give his side a 2-1 interval advantage.

A superbly struck low free-kick by Austin left excellent St Bedes keeper Stuart Green diving to his right in vain as Old Headingley drew level.

St Bedes almost grabbed a late winner but were foiled by a superb last-ditch tackle and the game was then decided in extra time by a beautifully-timed break that caught the tiring visitors unawares.

A free-kick straight at the Old Headingley keeper was quickly released and was followed by a mass stampede upfield that ended with Austin grabbing the winner.

Tom Punter was the match-winner for Fields S&S as his goal earned a 1-0 victory against Eccleshill United.

Fields will now meet last season’s beaten finalists Salts in the quarter-finals next month.

The tie between Thackley and Tyersal was postponed and will now also be played in January.

Meanwhile, the league programme was badly affected by the weather, with Kirkburton and Golcar United finishing level at 1-1 in the only Premier Division match to be played.

There was also just a single Division One game to survive as Wibsey, whose game at home to Hunsworth was a victim of the conditions, dropped into bottom place after Storthes Hall Reserves won 4-0 at Lower Hopton to move off the foot of the table and out of the relegation places.

Dudley Hill Rangers and Bay Athletic Reserves, who started the day in the top two places in Division Two, met at East Bierley and a 6-2 success saw Bay extend their run of successive victories to eight.

Joe Brody scored both Rangers consolation goals in reply to Jamal Simpson (2), Rehan Safeer, Sam Jerome, Ben Harrison and Declan James-Thomas.

Salts Reserves had Ben Slinger and Ryan Bogyslawski on target as they beat Ovenden West Riding Reserves 2-1 to move ahead of Dudley Hill Rangers into second place.

Tyersal Reserves could only muster a Dave Scott consolation in their 3-1 defeat at home to Hall Green United Reserves, who had Martin Scarthe (2) and Damian Powell on the mark.
