John Deacey is confident that his side will be back in action at Worcester City in the Blue Square Bet North Division on Saturday, a fortnight after their last run out.

Avenue’s 4-1 win at struggling Histon on December 1 was the last time the Bradford squad were tested, and Deacey feels his players will be off the pace after training was also affected by the recent weather.

The manager said: “We had nowhere to train on Wednesday but a mate of mine who owns a gym said we could use that for a bit of indoor exercise.

"It isn’t the same as a proper outdoor session but all the outdoor facilities in and around Bradford were no-go areas after the week we had.

“It will have been the same for most of the other clubs, so there is nothing we can do about it.

"We will be a bit rusty because we didn’t even get a game in the week before but at least we should play on Saturday because the temperatures this weekend are forecast to be a lot higher.”

Last Saturday’s home game against Oxford City was frozen off and the previous Monday’s fixture against Gainsborough Trinity fell by the wayside due to a waterlogged pitch at Horsfall Stadium.

Avenue held onto fourth spot, despite the back-to-back postponements and they head to seventh- placed Worcester City on Saturday.

The Gainsborough game has been rearranged for this Monday, so it will be a testing few days for Bradford.

Deacey added: “It will be a hard game against Worcester. They have three very good players up front - they have had two of them for a long while but they recently signed another from Nuneaton. We will have to be on our mettle.

“It will be the same squad because we only have the same number of players. I’ve let Simon Garner go back to Chorley because we have the experience of Jason Price back at the club.

"Tom Corner is also in the frame now, and when we get Martin Drury and Adam Clayton back from injury we will finally have competition for places.

“They have both had their operations now but it will be a few weeks before they are back in contention, which doesn’t help us right now as we look at two very tough games in the space of three days.”
