Silsden’s fortunes are in need of a massive boost and they could get that with a win at Norton United on Saturday.

The Cobbydalers have not tasted victory in any competition since October, and in a dozen scheduled fixtures since they have lost six and had six postponements.

The disastrous run has dropped Silsden down to 15th in the North West Counties League Premier Division, immediately above this weekend's hosts on goal difference.

Cobbydalers’ secretary Jim Rosser said: “We always look out for this fixture because it was our first on the non-league ladder.

"When we came into the league, Division One, our very first game was at Norton, which is in the Stoke area, just by Port Vale’s ground at Burslem.

“We were beaten 2-1, in the third minute of stoppage time, last weekend by Bootle, who are right up there but it was a pleasing display.

"We had three men out - skipper James Nettleton, Mike Garrod and Jake McEneaney.

“They could be back this week and we might have Joe Gaughan back. His move to Brighouse Town hasn’t worked out and he has been training with our under-19s squad.

"He didn’t re-register with us straight away so it’s down to Chris (manager Reape) - it’s if he wants him back.”
