City goalkeeper Matt Duke played down his part in keeping “the Bradford bandwagon” rolling as they stunned Arsenal in the Capital One Cup.

It was the ninth successive penalty shoot-out they have won and, while Duke admits he “thrives” on such a situation, he said: “I’ve just got on the Bradford bandwagon.

“That’s nine on the bounce now. I think I’ve done three or four since I’ve been at the club and it’s three or four keepers in total who’ve done the nine penalty shoot-outs.

“You always fancy yourself in shoot-outs. I thrive on it, I really enjoy it.

“You look at the run-up and the player’s body shape, and sometimes if you don’t get a feeling off the body shape you just have to pick a side.”

City, who took a first-half lead through Garry Thompson’s well-taken volley, came within three minutes of winning the tie in normal time before Thomas Vermaelen headed the Gunners level.

But they remained on terms through the extra half-hour and then prevailed 3-2 on penalties, Duke saving from Santi Cazorla while Marouane Chamakh and Vermaelen hit opposite posts.

Asked when he first thought a win was on the cards, Duke quipped: “About a minute before they scored!”

He added: “We’d done brilliant all game, up to 70 minutes it was quite even and then they pushed on the last 20 and with the pressure we were under, it (the equaliser) was going to happen.

“It was great spirit from the lads. We didn’t go down, we just carried on and thankfully we got through to penalties.

“It’s difficult for a club like Arsenal coming to a ground like ours – they’re not used to the dressing room and the surroundings. It’s probably harder for them to get up for than it is for us.

“It’s a massive game for the club and I think we wanted it more.”
