Eccleshill United Eyebrows will have been raised throughout non-league football following the appointment of the highly-qualified and vastly-experienced Bobby Davison as coach at Eccleshill United.

Davison needs no introduction as a former Leeds United and Sheffield United targetman during his days as a player in the top flight of English football.

He eased into coaching and management at Guiseley and was later number two to Bantams boss Colin Todd at Valley Parade.

Despite being very high-profile locally, Davison has a certain standing in the game in general and has coached abroad.

He worked in Hungary at Ferencvaros, previously one of European football’s giants who brought the legendary Ferenc Puskas through their system.

Eccleshill football chairman Adrian Benson announced Davison’s arrival at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium, saying: “We are absolutely delighted to appoint such a high-calibre coach and I’m so proud that our club attracted his application for the post.

“He is a qualified UEFA Pro Licence coach and when he took his first training session during the week it was a pleasure and delight to see how he worked with our players. He is very knowledgeable and such a nice, genuine man.

“Bobby’s appointment is an excellent choice and he will fit perfectly with the philosophy and culture we have developed here since Mark Ellis has been director of football.

“Mark will remain overall director of football and Bobby will be head coach, running match day from the dugout and training, but will continue to work closely with Mark.

“Bobby has seen the talent we have in our young squad and he is the best man to help them reach their full potential. To have someone like him at Eccleshill United is fantastic and will send out the right message.”
