Ricky Ravenhill column: I don’t think I’ve known a season like this.

We’re coming up to Christmas and as things stand we are going well in the league and still alive in all the cup competitions.

That’s absolutely unbelievable for a League Two club and long may it continue.

Port Vale in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday was a great win and personally I enjoyed getting back out there.

I think it was a good chance for people who haven’t played too much to come in and show the gaffer what they can do.

I thought the whole team were fantastic, from the young back four through to the more experienced players.

We put in a great performance against a top team.

I was asked by the gaffer to come in and do a job and that’s what I did.

As a professional footballer that’s all you can do.

If the gaffer fields what he believes is his best team on Saturday against Torquay then you’ve just got to accept that.

If I’m in it then I’m in it. If I’m not then I’m not.

All I can do is give everything I can and I thought I did that at Port Vale.

Like I said, that was a great performance and result but now we move on to Torquay and back to league matters.

Yes, we’re all over the moon with the progress we’ve made in the cup competitions and the Arsenal game is looming ever closer. But the bread and butter is the league.

When we sat down as a squad at the start of the season, we talked about the league campaign being the most important thing for us. What we really want now is three points against Torquay so we can go into the Arsenal game and really enjoy it.

We’ve done everything we can these past few days to ensure we’re in the best possible position to do that.
