Second top takes on second bottom in Blue Square Bet North at Nethermoor on Saturday as high-flying Guiseley host struggling Histon.

The Cambridgeshire outfit will not be looking forward to a repeat dose of West Yorkshire football after being beaten 4-1 at home by the Lions’ neighbours Bradford Park Avenue last weekend.

That defeat, coupled with Guiseley’s 3-0 victory at rock-bottom Hinckley United, means there is a chasm between the sides – and not purely in league standing.

Histon’s goal difference is just one less in minus figures than Guiseley’s is in plus and a huge 28 points separate the sides.

Yet despite his side’s comfortable win last time out, Lions boss Steve Kittrick was still not satisfied and explained: “I wasn’t really pleased because in the second half we had seven one-on-one situations and didn’t convert any.

“I told our lads before the game that it was a tricky fixture because everyone expected us to win it – and Saturday’s match is another one against a club lower down the league.

“Fair play to Hinckley because they never gave up. Histon will come here with the same mentality and that will make it hard for us.

“They have a young team, like Hinckley, and because of their youthful outlook they are fearless. They could have been beaten 8-0 last week but it wouldn’t matter because that’s gone now.

“I told my players last week that going to places like Hinckley and getting results wins leagues and I will be reminding them of that when they go out against a young, hungry Histon side.

“We have to be professional in our attitude on match day, in training and in our preparation.”

Nicky Boshell is ruled out after damaging knee ligaments at Hinckley last weekend but he is the only fresh injury concern for Kittrick.
