Heath L’Estrange believes his appointment at the Bradford Bulls Foundation could open the door for a new career within the game when he eventually hangs up his boots.

The club’s joint-captain recently accepted an offer to become ambassador of the charitable trust and is revelling in the role.

Aussie hooker L’Estrange said: “I’m really proud to be an ambassador for the Foundation. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and something I want to get into after playing.

“I really enjoy coaching and all that kind of stuff. I enjoy being out with the kids and I’ve been a rugby league fan all my life. I’d like to give something back somehow.

“I’ve done a few presentations in the past couple of weeks and to see the kids’ eyes when they’re looking up at you, you recognise yourself in them.

“It’s good to be able to give an hour and say hello. It means the world to them.”

L’Estrange presented the awards during Birkenshaw Juniors’ prize presentation evening. This followed the first season for nearly 20 years that the club have fielded junior sides.

Under-nines awards went to Harry Gray (player of the year, players’ player of the year and top try scorer), Freddie Lincoln (most improved player), Jacob Stuart and Oliver Armitage (shared coaches’ award), Ethan Rushan and George Worthington (shared commitment and hard work award).

Under-sevens prozes were won by Kyle Wroe (player of year), Alex Chapman (most improved player), Finlay Gamble (top tackler), Ben Redmond (top try scorer), Jacob Bateman (coaches’ award).

Birkenshaw Juniors will resume training at East Bierley playing fields in February. New players aged six to ten are welcome to attend. Contact Andy Redmond on 07876-692318 for more details.
